Project: Studded - COMPLETE!

I've always loved steel diamond plate. It's such a strong and attractive metal and I like using it here and there when modding

For a while now, I've been thinking that a computer made entirely of diamond plate would be pretty cool. It will be in a diamond plate box shrouded inside in diamond plate too!

My canvas is this diamond plate steel box

First, I got a micro ATX motherboard and PSU to see if it would all fit. These are not the components that I'm using, but just a size guide for what I need

It only took me 6 weeks of Playing Borderlands 2 to finally cut the window

And the card slots too

I cut out the backplate area

And the PSU intake

Then I riveted the motherboard tray in place and added the PSU

Nice start! So how sturdy is the box at the handle? It looks kind of thin. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses, Subbed.

It's full diamond plate. This thing is hard to cut!

Now on to the motherboard shroud. I mapped out the motherboard using cardboard

And then traced it onto the piece of diamond plate I'm using

Then I just had to cut it all out

I can't have the bare metal from the diamond plate touching the surface of the motherboard, so I'm coating the bottom with liquid rubber

The dry time will be at least a couple of days

About time you did something on this! . Is that video card going to fit correctly with the diamond plate in-between? Are you going to have a heat problem with the chipset/mofset as there doesn't look like there is any where for air to circulate around the board. Just a thought.

I cut out two 70mm fan intakes

I'm using these aluminum 70mm fans for the perfect match, but I'm still waiting on the grills

And a 120mm on top

The grills arrived. I'll be using longer screws with nuts, and rubber washers

I bought feet for a Lian Li case

Once all the fans and feet were mounted I used my dremel to cut off the excess screw thread

I'm gonna put the power button on the back

Time to get the wiring

I had to change the PSU to something that will fit easier for the shroud I'm gonna be adding.

And I'm happy that it boots

I'm using a 60GB SSD that I got for $20!!

And my old Radeon 6850 too

Now I have a big mess of wires

I'm using a shroud to cover the wires

And cut a notch for the wires to pass through

Then set it in

Then I spent quite a while trying to get the cover to fit on the motherboard with no luck. I even cut it into pieces hoping to segment it together and it still won't stay in place

Moving on....

For now I'm just adding a light

One thing I've been meaning to do is make another piece for the back of the video card. I even used a little extra spray rubber to adhere the metal to the PCB.

I put a window on, but the double sided tape looks rediculous

So I used aluminum tape to cover it up

I guess that's it, I'm done.

Ending specs:

AMD FX4100
Asrock 880GM-LE
4GB DDR3
MSI HD 6850
60GB SSD
380W PSU
CM S524 Heatsink
