partitioning problems

i used to run redhat 9 on a seperate hdd on my pc, which i have recently had to take out to repair a family members pc (pain in the arse), and i want to install linux on my main drive (got bout 10-20gig spare for it)

i have windows the way i like it atm, and i really dont want to have to uninstall it to create seperate partitions for linux to install on the drive so is there any way i can partition it without having to delete the origional partition and losing windows?

thankies for the help guys

First I would say be careful! It is very easy to hose your Windows partition doing this!

I used a Linux app called 'parted' to resize my Windows NTFS partition. First you'll want to defrag your Windows partition, then get something like a Knoppix CD. Knoppix comes with a GUI version of parted which will guide you through resizing your partition. It is very easy to use, but can be somewhat dangerous! Then when that's done, go ahead and install your favourite distro!

Alternatively, a safer option would be to use something like Partition Magic to resize the partitions...

I was about to suggest the same thing - maybe it'll run better on Redhat than it did/would on my slackware-9.1 install. Major pain in the ass getting it to work! The configure script had a problem where by it couldn't determine the length of char *.
