NVIDIA SLI has problems with widescreen

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/05...reen_problems/

It would appear that NVIDIA also has problems with widescreen resolutions and SLI too, as well as interlaced High-Definition resolutions across its entire range.

Well I don't have a widescreen setup, but vsync definately doesn't work in AFR games. Glad it's not just me.

as i am a big proponent of widescreen gaming, this issue is pretty much what is keeping me from going SLI. oh ya, and i have never owned a nvidia card either. not that i'm a fanboy, but the ati's always did what i wanted them to. and well (except for the poewrdvd/catalyst/dvi issues, but i like mpc and zoomplayer better now anyway).

anyone interested in the widescreen scene should check out my other regular hangout - http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/ <-- quite the friendly bunch.

i'm glad that this is getting exposure from the [H] - maybe these issues can get cleared up quick. that dell 2405fpw looks really good at about $1100.

Why is it Dell LCDs (the big ones anyways) are so popular? Good price point? I'm seeing it as $1019 atm anyways. The 20.1" looks nice but the res just isn't high enough for me (same as my 19"CRT)

If I'm reading the specs right... 1920x1200. I thought a DVI connection could only drive up to 1600x1200 (hence the mega-apple-beast needing two IIRC). Anyways... I do like the idea of widescreen gaming (those screenies at that site make me drool) but the LCDs are just SO much more expensive!

dells are getting popular due to thier ease of use mainly. they use samsung panels, which helps. dell is making what was bleeding edge displays available at about 60% of the price of the other major vendors. 3 months ago the other 1920x1200 panels were all over 2 large -dell introduced the 2405 in at 12 bills.

couple that with the sheer amount of people that either have a dell or two at home (kids, parent's boxes) or have billions of them around at work - especially the IT guy parents that buy from dell business branch and get huge discounts for bulk purchases, it just makes the dells seem more accessable. and there's the random dell electronic coupons, sometimes up to 30%.
people have gotten ahold of the 2405fpw for as little as 800$ direct from dell.

dell also have a very generous initial rma policy for thier tft screens. there was a bad batch of the 2005fpw's with serious backlight bleed and dead pixel issues, and from what i've read, people have been able to return these in hte first couple weeks pretty much no questions asked.

Greeetings guys, first post

I've worked in the digital video reproduction sales market for a while, and i've been surprised on a number of occasions by the quality of Dell's higher end product.

The specification sheet for the Dell 2005FPW can be found here:

Dell 2005FPW

The major spec that really sets these apart is the pixel pitch in my opinion. Depending on where you look (Dell doesn't have the spec listed on the spec sheet) the pixel pitch of this monitor is between .255 and .258. The typical LCD ( Including the BenQ FP992 on my desk ) has a pixel pitch of .294. Taking this into account, each pixel is considerably smaller & closer together, thus reducing your ability to see individual pixels. I've seen one of these in action and it is very close to Apple's product in terms of quality, these things look really good When viewing a decent photo of a park full screen, it's like looking through a window.

I love the idea of an LCD on my desk, the one i'm looking at right now is awesome, it's just the technology isn't there yet in terms of color. CRT's by comparison are capable of more / true colors, moreso than LCD's at this point in the game.

I hear Lacie is debuting some newer LCD's soon that will blow all the current LCD's out of the water, but are going to be coming at a premium $$$

The BenQ FP992 i have right now is great, but a friend of mine has one of these he's giving me in exchange for helping build some low end budget boxes for him:

Lacie Electron22BlueIV

If your thinking of plunking down the cash for an LCD, i'd hold onto your cash for a couple more months and wait for some better deals & better technology coming down the pipe.

Anyone is welcome to email me anytime if they have a question about LCD / Projector technology, i'd be more than happy to help anyone out.
