No offence but the ex-icann boff is an idiot. Having .xxx domains creates a virtual redlight district that can make it easier for parents to block all .xxx domains from children. He's almost denying the existance of the immense catalouge of internet pornography! Having everything in one place (although this will never happen) allows easier regulation imo.

it's a sensible thing to do. as has been mentioned, it allows easier filtering (if it gets good adoption) both at home and in the office.

I think its just fine to put porn in its own section of the internets domain scheme. I hate seeing pr0n results crop up in a legitimate search, it would be nice to filter them out (when I dont want to be there ATM

)

The .xxx domain is a fantastic idea. I can't believe he'd rather continue to accidentally go to porn links by misspelling URLs. I'm at work so I can't risk checking www.hotmial.com, but I'm pretty sure it's exploiting people's fast typing.

No i think he's one of these people who wants to make the whole internet a positive moral ground which i dont have a problem with, but what i do have a problem with is his inability to accept that there is a hell of a lot more "immoral" material on the internet that first needs to be dealt with.

It knid of misses the point that a good chuck of the internet is only there because of porn. I mean who needed to take secure payments over the net first... porn (probably)
A lot of the growth and technology has probably been funded (indirectly) by porn over the years.
If he thinks that this will just be another area they can expand into... well he might have a small point, as I can't see all those sites changing their names and leaving the old ones behind. I mean who else is going to use the domains like www.Ilovepicturesofnakedwomen.com?

In any case, I think its a good idea, I think you guys have covered the reasons pretty well.
I just wonder how long after this it becomes illegal to have pr0n at anything BUT an .xxx domain.

I agree, great idea but dont think that its the savior unless this move forces all porn sites to migrate to the .xxx domain!

Porn operators will probably operate within the .com/.net domains to increase their sites exposure/revenue.

If there was legislation forcing all such sites to this new domain it would be an incredible move that would finally help to clean up the net.

Well many porn providers will choose to take up .xxx domains but it's not possible to force anyone to take any sort of domain. The internet isn't controlled by the law of one particular country. Besides, if I want to run a pornsite, why should I be forced to take a certain domain? It's good to have the choice but a "legal" requirement is completely unenforcable.

Well.. i think it's a fantastic idea - the problem is adopting it. i doubt many companys will switch over. one of the best ways to promote your website is "bait and switch" which would be so much easier with .com names.

and besides that, porno sites don't not *want* to be filtered. they want to reach children, they want to be reached by accidental typos, they want to be reached by Innocent people looking for places to buy "kittens"

it'll never catch on.. i like porn as much as the next guy but the business is just too damn dishonest.. the Internet is far too liberal for organisation or laws. that's just the way it is, and will always be.
