Curved Plexi Case
It is not quite finished, but as little time as I have had to work on it I figured I had better show it now before it looks like an Intel 486SX.
Credit to Linear where it is due. Imitation is the best form of flattery.

It is not that full inside. It is a Shuttle FV24 with a 1 gig celeron CPU. It is a secondary (kids) computer that I use to watch TV in the office. I have a firewire CDRW connected to it that sits on top of my main computer under the desk. I did have a stripped down ATX power-supply inside but when I found a 1U rackmount PSU and started to strip it down to fit I decided to leave it external to help the heat and space issue. I have a USB floppy drive if I need one of those. I could have been much smaller but I have a full size TV Tuner card that Had to go in.

Me likes, I was going for small ordering my LianLi PC30, but that takes the cake. I love small, and portable, but not laptops for some reason. That is an incredible case, job well done.

Used paint stripper type heat gun to bend plexi.
Especially after using a filter to make the VFD more blue I gave Blue LEDs strong consideration. In my experimentation it didn't glow plexi edges as dramatically. One problem is that Blue LEDs are so focused. These red ones Im using have a nice wide angle along with brightness to spread along all the edges. However now that the red ones are in and the effect is more dramatic than I imagined Blue probably needs another shot. |

Diffuse them yourself, some sanding paper and no time at all, a nice diffused blue led. You could always just go with a couple low intensity ones, diffused, and it would look the same

Hmmm It would only take about 10 minutes to build a blue set. I only have two (blue LEDs) here at home. I think I will order some or maybe even take a trip to Radio Shack and pick up some more. Stay tuned.

Ah yes the hdd mod. Just did it yesterday as it was one of those things I wanted to do before I posted. You know what the worst part of doing that mod was? Wondering if it was going to work after going to all that work. It is a 7200 rpm WD 20gig drive. Not the latest and greatest, but not something I wanted to trash. Anyhow, it has been running for like 18 hours straight so far with no problems. Full surface scan checked good.

diffused high intensity blue LEDS up front and green in the back. that would be a sweet lookin transition. orrr...... make it all glow blue normall and then with HDD activity use high intensity white LEDs. then it will flash white like lightning. im doing that for my clear case. full sized case though.

This is definately one of the nicer cases I've seen recently. Only thing that gets me is that ribbon cable dangling helplessly out in the open, screaming, "Save me! Saaave meeeee! Any way you could get some of that temporary sticky stuff (like the stuff they seal mailed ads with), or double-sided tape, or something like that, and stick it up to the hdd bay?

The small brick sized power supply lives in the wall cavity behind a tackbord at my desk. When I built this office in my home I intentionall did this to hide all the cords.Notice the grey outlet in the pic with all the labels and arrows above. Then compare it with this pic and perhaps you will understand where it lives.

I really like that. And I think the red looks nice as it is, a really nice contrast to the blue of the VFD.
Good work M8!! |
