Directly connected or via a switch/router?

What are you trying to achieve by networking them?

Thanks for the reply, I am trying to achieve printer and file sharing and also access to one of the HDD's on the secondary PC.

    The set up is this,
PC1 connected to router/modem via wireless.

PC2 connected to router/modem by wireless and also cable.

Also an access point in another room wired to router.

At the moment I can't seem to even get of the ground by setting up a network connection.

Should be fairly easy to setup. Are they both on the same workgroup?

I cant seem to set up a workgroup in the first place, this seems to be the problem, once I have done that I should be fine.

Create a user on each account, in my example i will use bob
Set the password to the same

On your file share pc setup the share (right click, properties, sharing, advanced)
set everyone to have full control. ensure under the security that bob has full control.

Go into network and sharing center and change advanced sharing settings, Turn on Network discovery and turn on file and print sharing.

On your client, map it using \\<server pc name>\share name.

This should work, any issues give me a shout :)

Depending how fast the machines boot up (SSD?) it's better to map with the ip instead of sharename, windows can try to map the drives before the computer has fully booted up causing issues.

A bit more info. Trying to use the Microsoft "Fixit" tool tells me "The system time is different from your local standard time" It fails to fix it though.

Looking in the bios the system time appears correct to me. The windows clock is set to sync with UTC London.
