Hi all This is my first project made from scratch. I designed, drew and large majority of the work I have done myself. Sometimes it was difficult, but the result is worth it. The cabinet is made of black metal thickness of 1.5 mm. The outer parts were fired by laser and the rest is handwork. Wiring and plastic I have also made myself. Here are the first concepts. The final product is in some details a little different, but the overall design is maintained. My language is weak Google taks care of translation.
It took a month until came first laser fired sheets, the company what it does prefer larger orders. In the meantime, I was doing the things that were not directly related to the outer casing as ssd holder, hdd and bd-rw holder and cabinet for front led light. Then followed the holes on the front panel that I could not give burn because I had not I / O panel exact dimensions.
While awaiting the sheets I drew sticker. The sticker is made of black reflective foil, which in direct light turns golden.
Next stop the feet. Originally I had 4 designs, but this eventually won, because I managed quite easily achieve the desired shape and also I liked them most. Legs are made of aluminum flats of the dimensions 150x5mm. First was sawed the flats, then bent in the shape and at an angle were cut two pieces. The same procedure was done to next two pieces only be given to saw vice versa. Then was edges milling cutting to be completely according to my idea. Furthermore, made holes for attachment, carved the thread, sanded and sprayed.
Chapter - Plastics Just get plexiglass in my town is something amazing, I'm not talking about the entire board for 50 to 120 € depending on the thickness, especially when one needs a piece of 10x15 cm. For cutting I used everything from fretsaw to the jigsaw. This was followed by an hours of sanding, polishing and sign were also sprayed.
Next plexiglass is from an old shelf. Something I had to cope, others to bend, sanded the edges and make an opening in the housing.
Frame shell itself was not quite stable, so I gave burn more reinforcements around the perimeter of the holes on the doors and the doors itself. It took another month. Furthermore, work began on the configuration of inside parts.
Wiring Some psu wires was sleeved. New connections between the front panel and mobo was made. Led lights required plenty of time and patience.
This looks pretty awesome! Just a question as i am looking to build a case as-well. How heavy is it in this material it looks like it may weigh in on the heavier end of the scale!
All together almost 29 kg with water cooling. If I knew before that I will need extra stiffeners I would put it to cut from thinner sheet. But now it feels solid and so it should be.
