That'll be hotter than the sun Also a bit of a pain for mITX builds as it'll vent directly into the case. I'm struggling to see the point of this, neat as it is, but maybe I'm just missing something?
With the ever improving power consumption of modern GPUs, I'd like to see a return to single slot coolers for mid to high end cards. We may be a little way off at the moment but you have to wonder if the reason is as much to do with laziness as it is practicality.
That's actually a really sensible thing to do and a useful option to give people. If you can already make a two slot short M-ITX version of a given card I can't think of many reasons you couldn't take the same card and turn it into a full length single slot version fairly easily using a cooler design like this.
I doubt it has much to do with practicality, just look further down the range, even a lot of the 1050 / 460 / 470 cards are dual slot for no good reason, there is also a shortage of short graphicscards, the selection of mITX boards is too small and psu manufacturers still aren't taking advantage of having gone modular by not selling extra short cables for small cases, the only ones who seem to take the compact trend serious enough are case manufacturers.
I think the size trend with graphics card cooling is like American cars of the sixties and seventies. Big is good, bigger is better, biggest is best and never mind about efficiency. I'd be more impressed by a single slot cooler that works well than a three slot monster that runs slightly lower temperatures.
Indeed, its just plain ridiculous when you see actively cooled dual slot variants of ultra low end junk like the Geforce GT710... https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GT-710-1GD3.html#hero-overview Under what circumstances would that even be justifiable? When running it in 85c ambient temps? lol.
Good to see manufacturers are seeing demand for such things. Seems we get a slow trickle of reasonable low profile cards now too, all be it the 1050 Ti not a full fat 1070
