Wanted PC independant Stepper Motor Control

I'd like a how-to on stepper motor controlling. So you can motorize doors on your case or do some other cool stuff. It will have to be computer independant.

    lol.. ok that too!

(just have a notebook HDD, with an IDE converter on it- want to make it USB =portable. I know i can "buy" one.. but.. dont think I should have to spend that kind of $$)

so.. IDE HDD to USB = portable HDD Mod

    (or cannot this be done?)

External Harddrive enclosures, they are pretty common.

(in USB 1.1, 2.0 and firewire)

    Lighted Headphones

Big thanks to Zapwizard for winning the Screensavers competition or I'd never have found this place. Nice work too, btw. I'd like to add LEDs to my headphones, like you did to your LAN PC headphones, but I can't quite figure it out.

    quote:
"I just happened to have two wires that ran the entire length of the headphones that I wasn't using yet.
So it was easy to wire up the LEDs."
    -Zapwizard

What did you connect the wires to for power? Forgive me if this is a dumb question, I'm new to the electronics stuff.

    Re: Lighted Headphones

    Welcome and check this image:
    http://www.zapwizard.com/lanpc/highres/Connectors.jpg

The jack right between the two headphone jacks has +5volts on it. And I have a plug connected to the headphones that is connected to the wires running to the LEDs.
(The resistor for each LED is also inside the headphones)
Other then that each LED was hot-glued in place.

Further questions should be posted in my project log (In the project logs forum)

How-to for casting and using resin

    Dear Zapwizard,

Dont know if this can be added because it is not electronics related, but how about a how-to on casting and using resin. eddie_dane did something on it a while ago but the thread died and he removed the pictures.

    Hmm, good idea Penguin.
When someone gets time mabye they can put images to it, but here is how:

All it requires is a little soldering, and a SPST or DPST switch
(And makes sure you ARE not plugged in!)

If you use a SPST switch:
Cut the existing HOT wire in half.
Solder the hot wire to one terminal of the switch.
Solder the other end of the hot wire to the other terminal of the switch.
    That's it.

If you use a DPDT switch: (Recommened if you don't know which is hot and which is cold)
Cut both the HOT and COLD wires
Solder the HOT to one terminal, and the other end of the HOT to the switched terminal for that pole. (don't cross them!)
Solder the Cold in the same manner.
    That's it.

    Mod Guide Request

I haven't found any guides on proper methods to sand down, wash and repaint components such as panels, fascia, etc.

I would like a guide on the best methods of sanding, what cleaners, what process, and such.

I'm new to the whole modding scene, and it would greatly help me out if some of you with expert knowledge could help me out a bit

    Re: Moniter Mod

All the details I have on that are here:
    http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?postid=386516#post386516

It was simply a job of mounting and then finding power for the cold cathode. You could also run some power for the CCFL from an external source such as your PC or a wall adapter.

I would like a guide to the proper methods and procedures for sanding, washing, and repainting components such as panels and fascia.

What are the procedures, what are the tools used, which paints work best, etc.
