Still trying to problem solve my 2 main rigs (thread here about it - http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=169637) but wanted to see what GPU clients you are all running and to ask a couple of other questions.

On 4 of my 5 folding machines I use the GPU console clients which behave fine and you can monitor their progress without having to open the fahlog.txt file like on the systray clients.

On the XP x86 E8400 box im running 2 console clients with 185.85 Nvidia drivers
On the Vista x64 AMD 7750 box im running 6 console clients with 185.81 Nvidia drivers

Both also run VMware player & the VM linux SMP client.

I don't bother turning PhysX off after everyone said it makes no difference, do you all leave it on or switch it off?

What remote software do you use (if any) to work on your machines? I use Dameware mini-remote control locally and logmein across the interweb.

Cant think of anything else to ask at the mo lol but theres some things to think over!

    Thanks for your time :thumb:

A standard rig for me is:

    Random Athlon X2 (from 3800x2 to 5000x2)
    MSI K9A2
2GB Random 800MHz RAM (usually OCZ or Geil)
250GB Maxtor HDD (as I had 10 sitting around)
    OCZ 600w PSU
    4x 8800GT

    Vista Ultimate 64bit
    logmein free
    hamachi
One of the last 4 releases of Nvidia drivers (depending on if I've bothered updating drivers)
    4x systray clients

My work laptop then runs fahmon for monitoring clients

    Cheers Sas, what is hamachi?

Also do you disable PhysX or just leave it on?

hamachi is a virtual private network thing, makes your PC accessible from anywhere.
I have never used that kind of thing, except ssh on my LAN.

Physx left on standard (on I guess)

Have you not read my guide in the latest issue of CPC for hamachi?

Four of my rigs are WinXP32 Q6600 running a single SMP and each with 2xGTX260's on nVidia 181.20 (I think). PhysX off. I use LogMeIn for remote access, realVNC for local network access. I don't run VMware (waiting for the WinSMP new release in July - hopefully they've finally fixed it?!), the GPU clients are Systray ... think that covers it ;)

    My standard rig spec would be;

    MSI K9A2 Platinum motherboard
Athlon 64 X2 CPU (or a Phenom, depending on what's lying around)
    4Gb OCZ Reaper PC2-8500 / Corsair Dominator
Smallest capacity hard drive I have available (one rig runs on a 20Gb 2.5" SATA drive!)
    Seasonic S12/ Antec Quattro/ Corsair HX PSU > or = to 600W
    4x 8800 Series cards, either GT's, GTS's or GS's

    Setup for a rig goes as follows;

    Install:
    XP 32 Bit
    Chipset drivers
185.85 version nVidia with CUDA drivers
Rivatuner (for ocing & gpu cooling fan speeds)
    Fahmon
One console GPU client per card
    VMware Player
    Notfreds SMP VM application
    Prifinitty
    HWmonitor
    VNC Enterprise Edn
    Logmein free version

For CPU usage I set each GPU clients core to realtime and lock the affinity as one Fahcore_1x process per CPU core, then set prifinitty to auto set & enforce on startup. vmware-vmx gets set to use all CPU cores and use low proiroty, then it's the same deal in prifinitty with auto set & enforce. That's basically all there is to it, and my rigs have never crashed or hung. Logmein is for when I'm not at home, VNC is for using the machines over the host network only.

Thanks for the reply's lads, gave me a few ideas.

Have just fully rebuilt my K9A2 with 3 x 9800GX2's in but this time went the XP route not Vista.

Having a weird memory problem at the moment but will stick a separate thread up about that in a sec.

Need to have a play with Hamachi as well me thinks :D
