Other Is CCleaner registry cleaner trust worthy?

Hi all

A while ago I asked you all if you thought CCleaner was a good program. Due to the good response I got I downloaded and installed it. However I haven't yet used the registry cleaner part as I'm just to darn wimpy to click the button for fear of it all going to hell.

My PC is feeling a little sluggish lately and having done everything else I would normally do to fix this I think that this may be the last thing on the list.

Is the CCleaner registry tool going to kill my comp?

CCleaner is a great program! I've been using it for about 3 years now, never had a single problem, and I run the registry cleaner often too.

If it'd make you happier, take a backup first as described here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry

But I wouldn't worry about it, just run it. And that list is just missing components or things Windows doesn't need any more, no biggie.

As both above I have used it extensively and never had a problem.
I always save a back-up using the funtion on CCleaner but have never had to use it.

 

I use it regularly. Never given me a problem.

Helps remove registry entries from uninstalled programs which are not removed automatically.

It's great if you know what you're doing.

 

yeap, it's one of those programs, that if you know what your doing is a great tool, but if you don't, don't mess with the registry without making a backup first, or you may just find yourself re-installing windows.

I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I've had to perform a format and clean install of Windows 7 twice recently. I usually run CCleaner, reboot, then run Defraggler and finish of with a Full System Virus Scan. First time I couldn't install drivers after running it, the second time my computer would get to the login screen and just go blank.

I have been using CCleaner for a long time as well with no problems. Reckon this is a registry problem? Obviously the problem is something I am doing wrong. I'm scared to run it again!

 

When used with default settings I find CC cleaner fairly mild and definitely nothing to worry about.
I too have used this for years on various PCs, never had a problem at all.

 

There's no performance benefit from cleaning the registry these days, ask yourself if it's worth the risk.

 

well I'm pleased to say I took the plunge and it seems to be alot happier now. My user loads in half the time and It seems a bit more responsive when opening progs.

Just to add to the good words for CCleaner, I use it weekly to remove unwanted files and to clean my registry in Windows 7 64, never had a glitch.

 

I've never had a problem with CCleaner registry cleaner. However I tend to use the Auslogics Registry Cleaner these days.

 

It may be overkill but I use CCleaner on all my and my families computers. Plus I recommend it to everyone I know. In the time I've been using it, 2-3 years I've never had a problem.

 

CCleaner is great! I find Ace Utilites to be a good similar program too

 

Add me to the ccleaner appreciation club! Used it for ages. Great for cleaning reg and disabling start up programs. One of the first programs I have on a stick to put on new computer

 

ccleaner is nice, never had a problem with it, no longer bothering to backup the registry, keeps unnecessary files to a minimum.

 

I tell you what, that Auslogic registry cleaner Tommo recommended seems more thorough, in that it found 50 or so 'correctibles' with my registry that CCleaner didn't...

 

This is my understanding of it too, thought registry cleaners were pretty pointless.

 

I found the same thing. The Auslogics cleaner is the best one I'd tried and so far it hasn't caused any problems on the 3 machines I've used it on.
