Xp is good... I have it dual booting with ME until I get good driver support though :D

As for the buying new cdkey thing... no you never have to buy new cdkeys. You can reinstall it a set number of times (four?) after hardware changes and let it look a new key up on the web before you have to ring m$ and ask them for a new number. Getting cdkeys is always free though.

I've been running XP on two systems for the past month and a half. Make sure you order the Professional version instead of the Home version if you plan on doing any time or home LAN networking. The Home version doesn't allow you to join any NT domains whether its NT v4.0, Windows 2000 Server, or the upcoming Windows.NET. I would never go back to Win98SE or WinME after switching and it runs rock solid.

if im understanding hi-tek's post correctly, he means you cant network an XP machine with a NT machine or any of the others he listed, ViViD, so you should be ok.

    correct me if im wrong

I thought XP home dint support networking fullstop. well apart from the net which dont really count, if it is it could cause probs with things like cable modems that use a netcard and TCP/IP to talk to each other.

Sayin all that, there is quite a good chance that im talking out of me arse, was ages ago that i read it :p

From what i can gather only reading an artical the networking in home refers to a dhcp server and not staight talking across a lan. So you should be fine in getting one pc to talk to another the only problems you will have if your try and use profile and the such which require a log on and user id like in windows 2000 and NT 4. This feature doesn not tend to happen in a home networking environment any how.

    So you should be fine.

Forgott to add use zonealarm or a good firewall if you cant runn linux i recomend zone alarm from the reviews as most new OS have a hole in them hackers can get though. to start with its normaly the size of a bus so a extra bit of attention should be taken to secure your data.

look at www.grc.com for further info

    Not me Vicar!

Am I right in saying this OS can not be copied and pirated?

Unlike most of the previous flavours of windows before it.

Has anyone proved it either way, without incriminating yourself. ;)

I have information passed onto me suggesting otherwise.
