Right, I'm no beginner, I've installed Windows countlesstimes and resolved every issue but I'm stuck on one!

I've just reinstalled Win 7 on my main PC, I always disconnect secondary hard drives.
So windows installed on the my H81M-ITX mobo, running nicely but when I connect the 2nd HDD it starts to boot but says connect proper boot media. eh?

Being a UEFI mobo it's setting the partitions as GPT and I get 3 partitions on install

    100mb system
    128mb MSR reserved
    Remained as Primary

BIOS is set to boot Windows (setting to the SSD doesn't work)
The secondary HDD is fine, it works when I connect after boot (hot swap)

    Bootrec doesn't help
Haven't used EasyBCD on GPT before (only MBR)

Not sure where I'm going wrong can anyone help.

Am considering re-installing as MBR if possible or converting if possible to save reinstall.

My only thoughts would be boot order (Windows Boot Manager on the SSD should be first) or that the 2nd HDD has the boot flag enabled. Ever had an OS on it?

Nope, considered that, it's a 1TB for steam games and general storage

Hmmm, that is difficult. Personally I'd never install Windows 7 in UEFI/GPT mode as I've seen it cause boot issues though not exactly the same as yours.

Unfortunately you can't change from GPT to MBR without losing everything.

What happens if you mash F12 on boot up and manually choose your boot device?

    Same things as auto boot.

Not too bothered about losing everything, it's only a fresh install, can do again easy enough
