So how good is this card compared to the 4890's? Would 2 4890's in Crossfire equal the same processing power of a single 5870?

Man that's quite a jump in power. Be interesting to see benchmarks from it.

:jawdrop: Those specs are sound pretty good. Can't wait

Seattle is on the west coast, so that means the announcement will be this evening/night UK time?

It's good to see the power being so much lower so you don't have a small cooker in your computer ala 4870x2.

Even though I'm posting this from a nvidia computer, I've gotta admit to being a red fan boy :D

Damn I hope so, but I think this year they are spreading out the launches more than last year (didn't the entire 4800 series come out on the same day? Bar the 4890)

Either way, if they haven't announced it now, it'll probably be an evening job, so that's ~3AM here in the UK >.>

Good to see they're all going to be 40nm though :)

Mean looking card. Glad I didn't invest in liquid cooling my 4870 just yet :p

What makes you say that? A die shrink almost always means a cooler running chip.

Regardless of whether the meeting today is under NDA, it should still mean more leaks ;) I want more pictures! :(

Also, I heard on Hardforum that the 5870, 5850, and 5750(?) would be shown at the meeting, and released towards the end of this month (uncertain).
Also, a 5870X2 to compete with GT300 series from NVidia later this year.

    Sounds good to me :thumb:

Yeah, but think of the power! It will hopefully be better than the 4870's temperatures though.. (safe as they are, it's still worrying).

That Eyefinity may woo me to the HD5870.

haha those are reference only pics, the newer coolers will have flash graphics, custom designs etc and look much better, also a lot will have the aftermarket Zalman coolers like the 4870s/4890s do these days :)

TBH I'd prefer them without the stupid stickers.
I was very pleased I bought a nice Sapphire 4870 when they came out, until it arrived with an annoying woman and some rubbishy texture picture on it.

I'm sure it'd look better with no sticker/ATi sticker. :(

    Yeah, wow, Eyefinity sounds awesome.

But even without that, judging from the raw power on those chips (driving those insane resolutions!) it looks like AMD has another winner :D

I'm thinking ATI might just be king of the hill again for this next generation of GPU's.

Though i would cream in my undercrackers if they came out with a gpu at that blows the 5870 out the water and wont cost me £500 :D

Im content with my dual 295s.. from what I have read the 5870 will compete with the gtx285 upping performance by 10%... which makes the card around 35% faster than a stock 4890 and 50% faster than a 4870. I cant see the gtx295 beoing over thrown by a single gpu quiet yet especially considering performance will be "similar" to a 4870x2 which in my experience (not opinion) is slower than a gtx295.
