    Mobo: gigabyte x58a ud3r rev2
    cpu: i7 930
    ram: corsair dominator

cpu + ram (1 stick) + pci video card installed, when power up, fans spin, lights on mobo light up (rear cmos button + some led's by the mem).
no post for a little while then it repeats short beeps, to fast and to many to count.

this is with the board on bench outside of case.

if I remove the ram leaving the cpu and video card i get no post.

remove video card and ram, no post

remove the cpu, the board powers up for about 2 seconds then powers off

I have some videos to upload once i get into work

Any ideas would be most welcome!

Continuous Beeping: Memory or video problem

Explanation: The system is producing constant beeping in no specific pattern, or a fast "ringing" sound.

Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the system memory, or possibly the video card. The memory is more likely--the system complains long and loud if it can't find any usable memory, as there is no way to even start the boot process when this is the case. The motherboard itself could also be the problem.

    Try a different stick?

Check your Mother Board manual for Beep Codes and see what it says. On my Gigabyte Mother Board continous short beeps means there is a power problem, but yours could be differn't so its worth having a look at the manual.

You could also cheak the motherboards website and see if your CPU is supported.

I had tried with different mem sticks :(
Also used pci-e and pci gfx cards with same result.

    Am uploading videos right now.

I checked the Manual and online for the beep codes, for which I also came to the conclusion that it was power / short circuit, this board is running on bench, so it wont be shorting on the case or any other components :S

The PSU has been tested in another machine to be wokring ok.

CPU + GFX - NO POST
    http://indy.unmake.net/~wut/help/009.AVI

CPU + RAM + GFX - long wait, then repeat short beeps @1:01. - EDIT - 56 short beeps
    http://indy.unmake.net/~wut/help/010.AVI

    CPU only - NO POST
    http://indy.unmake.net/~wut/help/011.AVI

empty motherboard with no CPU, RAM or GFX - switches on for 2 seconds then turns off.
    http://indy.unmake.net/~wut/help/014.AVI

CPU + Socket - looks ok.

EDIT - exported the audio from video 010.AVI into audacity to try count the beeps... If I can count, then there is 56 beeps.

I know you said you have tried different mem sticks, but have you tried putting them into one of the different slots? If you haven't give that a try.

I ran out of time this morning, I will be giving that a try tonight.

I have spoken to scan.co.uk whom also beleive that it could be a fulty motherboard, and have advised me to start an RMA, sending the cpu and ram also so they can test on site, also test the cpu and ram seperate to the board.

Going to give another few tests tonight before shipping it back.

Wow thats unusual for scan to test parts that wasn't bought from them.

Are they charging you to do that??

I am a frequent Scan customer and also get on very well with a bunch of the guys there on a social level.

If no faults found, then a charge of £35+VAT otherwise no charge.

Ok cheers, may as well send the cpu and ram also I guess... leave the stock cooler attached also?

What is the charge for testing this lot?
and if board found to be faulty, would I get refunded return shipping?
So they will collect it and test it for me.
No word with regards to charges about the ram and cpu, although those items did actually also come from scan.co.uk and are still under warrenty with scan.

Either way, they are willing to help me out, for which I am most grateful.
    Top service as always IMO.

Tried the white mem slots instead of blue, first mem stick I used, the bleeps changed, test using the other 2 sticks, it post with single beep and got into the bios.

This indicates to me that 1 stick of ram is faulty, as is the blue mem slots on the motherboard.

    EDIT:-
    Its the motherboard !!
To be clear, each of the blue mem slots, I went though testing each stick 1 at a time in each of the slots, any stick in any blue slot and the board fails with that 56 short beeps, if i place any or even all of the mem sticks into the white slots, then it POST's, I can get into the BIOS where it reads 6gb of system RAM etc.

    EDIT again:-
Just a thought, I just remembered that with the new i3/5/7 systems, the memory controller is moved into the CPU, could this leave potential for the CPU still being at fault over the motherboard?
Would the CPU indicate that there was a fault with one of its memory controllers?
Actually, how many memory controllers does it have? 1? 2? more? :S
