Done anther quick render, it's a swiftech micro resevoir and I used bsodman's sketchup model for the dimensions.

I think it went fairly well, would like to know if it would be possible for it to look like it had water in.

Now I'm getting better and more used to solidworks I might try and model some more complex things, possibly an improved version of my laptop cooler that I made a while ago for DT coursework.

Adding perspective will help make the renders look more realistic. Nice model however.

I don't really know that much about changing settings and things in photoworks to make renders look better, concentrating mainly on the models now and will put more attention into the renders later.

Will try a render with perspective though, done it once before just haven't bothered/didn't realise it made much difference. At least with photoworks the renders are quite quick and they give a reasonable impression of the model in the end, though its in no way photorealistic.

Thanks for the advice.

well fresh off the machine

Solidworks 2009 + Maxwell render 1.71 (SL 13)

I need to increase the DOF, and re-model my G1/4in barbs as im not loving them at all.

I also need to stop being lazy and actually set up some spot lights for this

i block is based on a Danger Den TDX, with a 775 style top. Not really that bothered with it to be honest, been running the machine to death rendering stuff for work which i cant show...

That took some time, mainly trial and error.

i have such ideas for cases and block which are on scraps of paper, but when you spend all day in CAD doing work, that last thing in the world you want to do in the evening is more CAD!

I've got another render brewing right now, will be a few hours before its ready. This time the copper is brand spanking new, barbs fixed to more of my liking.

10hrs, maxwell render 1.7 SL16, was put on late last night, and the background has washed out the nice acrylic top. Also there is alot of noise still and DOF needs widing a bit more.

thx mate, i think u should play a bit with ur camera settings for ur renders to avoid loosing details / high brightness, maybe try a high f stop ( 22 ?), a low lens (35mm) bit higher iso and crank the lights up a bit, that should come up nice that way ur dof will be way down aswell

Cheers, i have been a photoworks user for too long, it was just simple click and render, but they never looked that real, mainly because its pretty limited, and the materials never that good.

Burnout 21, when using photoworks are there any ways of making renders look even slightly more realistic (apart from just turning up the quality)?

changing the enviroment helps alot in some cases, and playing with the materials. Just because it says acrylic in the material selection dosen't mean it'll look any good.

May i suggest on the res you did you throw some rads on the edges, nothing major just 0.5mm just to take the edge off. Also enable the perspective its next to the realview toggle.

same block as before but now with a black chromo top, i got board and ended the render on this machine early hence alot of noise in that image.

SL15 in 38min DOF is much better!
