And no titter ye not I do not mean "Adult" I mean in my day it was an 'X' classification film, which meant you had to be 18 to watch, pretty tame by today's standards I know but I am 62 but it was The Witch Finder General, starring the late great Vincent Price. I don't even know what the classification for films are today and what gets to have the 'X' equivalent. Still sneaking in to see this at 15 was quite something.
Sexy Si.. Oh, not porn. The Evil Dead is the first one I remember watching that definitely had an 18 rating. I think I saw that when I was 10-13 (Memory hazy, scene missing) because of who I watched it with and where, so perhaps 15-18 years ago. Sleepover at his with a bunch of us. I couldn't even begin to remember the first 18 I went to the cinema to see.
Predator! My dad was pretty strict with me and everything except Arnie films. Let me watch it after I'd done my work in the garden one Saturday. I was a changed 10 year old after that!
I had a terrible mother who let me watch whatever she had on. All the classics such as Alien, The Fly, Nightmare on elmstreet were all viewed when I was between 5 - 10 lol My favorite was Jaws but I always cried when the shark was killed!
Hot Bubblegum was the first 18 film I ever saw. It was similar to Porky's I guess. And Lemon Popsicle and Kentucky Fried Movie. The first horror film I ever watched was The Shining and I didn't sleep for about two days haha.
I recall watching things like The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Alien(s), Hellraiser, Children of the Corn, Village of the damned, etc all ~pre 1995, so I was 8 or younger. Don't actually recall having watched them (except Exorcist) at the time, but know I did watch them, can still picture scenes of each one in my head. Apart from horror films (that my elder siblings liked to watch and get scared to), and the usual Action film eg Terminator, Die Hard, etc, the only films I got to watch were the usual kids things like the Disney films, Land before time, etc. I'm actually not a big fan of horror films/games nowadays, most likely from having watched such as such a young age. I either find them boring or uninteresting, or so over the top trying to be scary its not. Its the subtle things that will get to me nowadays... that or after watching a film at 2am and walking up the pitch dark stairs to get to my room and think "what if the killer/zomibe/thing was just around the corner or behind me.
The original Lover's Guide. I was about ten, thanks for leaving it in plain sight dad On the same day (thanks again, dad) I watched a bootleg copy of A Clockwork Orange (I later discovered that my uncle had bought it in Holland and copied it for my folks) and Basic Instinct, in a single sitting. Mild to moderate by modern standards, but it was a pretty shocking day for ten year old me! Some dude at my school introduced a stack of Hustler magazines at around the same time, and within the year I discovered the internet and realised Father Christmas was my pissed up father - innocence well and truly lost. (BTW I love my dad to bits, he just hadn't foreseen the scenario.)
I honestly have no idea. I, like some others in this thread, was never actually restricted from age related material!
Rambo 1st Blood, begged my mum to rent it from the video shop. I remember her popping her head round the door periodically. She wasn't too impressed when John gets stripped and hosed down.... many many F bombs!
for me it was the terminator series before the re-rating, theirs a 12 year gab between me n my bro so he was always bringing home films i no doubt shouldn't o been watching at such a young age. I never did get though as a kid.. they produced toys for Aliens, Terminator, Robocop ect yet they aint films kids would be seeings >_<
My mum was of the opinion "Its your fault if it scares you". Im not sure though would either have been Carrie, Jaws or The Exorcist cant remember.
An American Werewolf in London, i was only 12-13 at the time and it stuck with me for years, i remember feeling like something was following me quiet often on dark nights walking home. Just looked on IMDB and they describe it as Comedy, Horror, strange as i don't remember it being very funny.
RoboCop - Don't remember how old I was, around 10 I reckon, but the scene where they Spoiler shoot Murphy's hand off before filling him with lead stood out as different from your average Herbie film.
I was about 10 when Dad let me watch Terminator with him one night - Mum and sister were out of course.
