after finaly persuding the misses to let my buy a new computer i built myself a nice I7 930 with a gtx465 gpu and thought id see what ppd i could get out of her. it had been a while so when i realised i could run up to 8 smp clients and the GPU client i started to acheive a respectable 12k ppd "ish". So after a month and a half and 250,000 gained points,i rushed to WHS to grap the CPC map to see my name in the mag. http://http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userpage&username=andy_owen after reading though the list of achevers about 10 times i decided to bitch and moan "im not in the mag" anyway its helped me clock the system stablaly so not a total loss andy owen - RoboticNobler
I'm guessing you're folding 24/7? 12kppd is abit low for that set up. http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=416866 Is the 930 overclocked? get running bigadvs if it is. Have you sorted a passkey out yet?
The magazine seems to take its stats several weeks before publication, and the lists of milestones can be a bit erratic. It's just one of those things. Look forward to the next issue
well after running a 512mb ati card for about a year and getting 150000 points i thought i was the tits but your right i need to look at my set up a bit closer to see what else i can get out of it and yes i run 24/7 apart from a few hours hard gaming a day when i turn all the clients off
and no pass key??? what is it lol i read inbetween the wrong lines most of the day so id guess your talking about my folding user pass word !! mmmmm no i havent
Welcome to the forums Andy From what you said in your OP, I'm guessing that you're running 8 uniprocessor clients (one for each 930 thread) rather than a single smp client. You'll get a lot more points running a single client across all the cores. The SMP setup guide is here. Passkeys can be obtained from here. The quick return bonus scheme (which requires a passkey) is described here. If your 930 is OCed to 3.8GHz+ and you want to run the bigadv client, you'll need to add the -bigadv and, assuming you still want to run a gpu client and leave a core free for that, -smp 7 flags.
phoenicis the phoenicis in this months mag wow anyway im still trying to work out smp clients and have run up to 8 smps but not all the time i did know you could run an smp across all the cores just dont have a clue how to get it to work more reading needed i think im currently running the I7 with the stock coller so any OC is for test purposes only until i can afford liquid cooling
ok im doing somthing totaly wrong i just got my pass key and totaly understand that but: i can get the smp clients to run across all core's let alone 7 and leave one for the gpu i think i must be a complete plank as i follled the F@H discription and the client is still only using 16% of the processor even after restarting i might need a hand to sort this help!!!!!
Hi Andy, the key thing to get the smp working, and thereby using all the cores from one client, is to set the "-smp" flag in a shortcut for starting your Folding client. The Target in your shortcut (make sure you have a short cut of course ....) should be something like; Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe -smp -advmethods And the "Start in" entry of the shortcut should read something like; C:\Users\yourprofile\Folding@Home (depending on where you installed it)
ahhh lol that would be why its still only running at 16% i fould anouther thread about the -smp thing and followed that not convinced its worded though 'Additional client parameters []?' use the below flags : -smp 7 -bigadv -verbosity 9 i might just ask one of you experts to remote to me and do a demo or ill have anouther look monday night
just add them to short cut. right click shortcut, click on properties, click on shortcut, goto target add after exe
It should look something like this. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Folding@home\Folding@home-x86\Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe" -smp 7 -bigadv Although if you've just got your passkey sorted, the bonus kicks in after 10wus, so don't add bigadv until you've done 10 short wus.
Doesn't the SMP client have the "-smp" parameter hard-coded? I'm not supplying mine any parameters and it's using all cores. Andy_owen, what client are you running exactly?
this is the parth location for the client im trying to get working on all cores "C:\Users\andy\Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe -smp -bigadv -advmethods.exe"
cool i cant wait ??? do you work for the mag then as issue 89 would be the feb issue and i only just brought the jan issue
