Looking to crossfire my hd 4850 soon and was wondering what the best intel mobo for this was.

Also is it possible to crossfire a 4870 or 4870x2 with a 4850?

x48, or x58 if you're going intel or 790FX for amd

P45 is a good alternative, it does a good job with CrossFireX and doesn't cost an arm and a leg like X48/X58 -- especially considering how X58 motherboards will be $280-300 and up.

Plus you can only crossfire it with another 4850 (with the same amount of G-RAM)

X38 does the trick and keeps the price low since you only have to use DDR2, X48/58 needs DDR3, plus with the X38 you get 2 full PCI-e lanes where-as I THINK the P45 has only 8 lanes per PCI-e? rather than the full 16.

I agree with the suggested boards in other post. I thought it was worth mentioning, make sure that the games you plan on playing take advantage of "crossfire".

Crossfire now works async. Many people are running a 4870 and a 4770x2. No problems at all now...

    Not true.

    X38 came in DDR2 and DDR3 varieties, as did X48 :)

X38 and X48 are two full x16 lanes while P45 is two x8, yes.

asus Rampage Formula it's a X48 mobo that uses ddr2 has 2 each 16x pci slots (I got 2 of them great boards) where a P45 board will only have support for one 16X & the other slot is 8X , when crossfired with a p45 mobo then both slots will default to 8X .. if yer gonna go with a p45 mobo then get 4870X2
    the GigaByte EP45-UD3P is a Hellve O/C'er ,add a 4870X2 & yer good to go !

    Best MoBo for Corssfire?

I am using the M3a78-T , but I would recommend the M3A79-T Deluxe.
If you want to stick to an amd all in one solution. This way you stick with all amd/ATI unified drivers....
Works wonderful for me with a 4870.
I really wanted someting with the newest southbridge, so the 78g was all they had at the moment.
Nothing I would not recommend about it.
