I am looking for an ITX board for medium level gaming LAN box and have seen the B85I Gaming listed.

It says it has OC Genie, and I see it has the same power phases as the Z97i Gaming AC; will I be able to OC an i5K or the new G3258 Anniversary Pentium please?

    Thanks

    Hi MSIRawZ,
Thanks for getting back to me, that BIOS looks ideal thanks.

WHat I was fundamentally checking was that the B85 will allow overclocking even though it's not a proper OC chipset like the Z87?

    Cheers

BIOS will allow overclocking but B85 wasn't designed for it. However you can OC but please don't go mad.

Thanks RawZ, that's a perfect answer, great to have you here to help
I was concerned as supposedly it was Z87 OC only, then there was talk of lesser 8 series chipsets getting revised BIOSes with OC.

Nice to have the room to bump up a CPU but not go mad !!

The limitation is/was purely BIOS based. It didn't take long for people to mod the BIOS's and for people to unlock the overclocking potential. Now, manufacturers just chuck the options in as they are perfectly capable of average overclocks. :)
