What's the best sort of tower I could get for around £700? I've got things like; Mouse and keyboard Case (Could possibly upgrade it, not entirely necessary though!) Speakers Monitor OS Graphics card (6850 does the job really) any help would be appreciated! I'm a gamer btw! looking for best performance
That's a lot of cash for barebones components lol! I'll outline a few: PSU - a nice modular 600-700W will be ample £80-100 CPU - Core i7 2600K £250? RAM - 8GB dual channel kit, cheap these days £60 Other guys who know more about Sandy Bridge can suggest a motherboard for you. You should also consider getting an SSD because your budget definitely allows for it!
A good modular psu would be the corsair hx650 @ ~£90 CPU: unless you need the extra cores the i5 2500k is just as good @ ~£150 Ram: corsair vengeance 2x4gb Mobo: MSI p67a-gd53 @ ~£110 Ssd: crucial m4 128gb or OCZ vertex 3 SSd or corsair force series 3 SSd 120gb CPU cooler for ocing?- bequiet dark rock advanced/pro or one of the corsair all-in-one water-cooled units
i7-2600K £235 P67 GD53 - £105 Antec TP New 750W - £95 OCZ Vertex 3 120gb £220 Samsung Spinpoint F3 1tb £35 Total £695 Edit: haha how embarassing, forgot ram and cooler and sound card. Lulz. Xonar DS - £35 Gelid Tranquillo - £25 8gb 1600mhz - £65 New total: £820. Or get the i5-2500k and have a total of £740. That's what I'd do anyway.
+1 to i5 2500k build for £740, only get the sound card if you are spending over £100 on headphones/speakers.
If its primarily a gaming build I would also vouch for getting the 2500k instead of the 2600k, because your paying a premium for hyper-threading that will only help you for vid encoding etc (ie not worth it unless you are regularly using apps that can use more than 4 cores)
The 2500k obviously already has 4 cores, the HT will give him 8 threads and AFAIK most games are not threaded for 8 cores. Reread my post I said 'more than 4 cores'. If he wants to by all means get the 2600k but he said its for gaming and I doubt he will be missing out when he could use the extra money for other parts of his build.
Just merely stating thoughts, it depends how long he wants to keep it for without upgrading really...
