    At least it's significantly quicker than second-best, price aside. Weren't the last couple rounds of Titans barely quicker than the fastest "normal" cards?

    Sigh, if AMD were offering decent competition, this would/should have been launched as a 980 Ti with 8GB of VRAM for £599.

    Were AMD even capable of producing anything to compete with nVidia for speed, you'd likely see a clause in the small print that requires you lease a sub station from the National Grid to power the bloody thing...

    It's fast, it's expensive, it will sell like crack-laced sherbet fountains. If I win the lottery tonight I'll be buying at least 2.

    I'm a little surprised it didn't do a bit better at 4k than it did, what with it's ridiculous 12gb of vram, but that's probably more for when VR kicks off. Probably didn't go above 6gb usage in the testing.

    No, the previous titan was about 1.5x faster than the normal cards of the time (680/7970) and that wasn't even with all the cores enabled.

    Shows how much I follow these things. Was it that there was a "normal" card that was released shortly thereafter than was 90% of the Titan?

    GTX 780....


    btw , did this throttle when it hit the design limit of 84 degree`s? being reported elsewhere about that , and it runs very very hot (hotter than the AMD cards tested)

    780 Ti as well. Which was actually faster!

    Depends what you count as throttling. In extended tests it was running at a constant 1,139MHz, which is still signficantly above the rated boost clock (1,075MHz), whilst at its maximum temperature. That's standard behaviour for this style card, so not really. As for temperatures, it runs no hotter than the other cards that use this cooler - they all run at around 83 degrees under sustained load. The difference is in clock speed and noise. This is a lower temperature than reference 290X/290 cards.

    reference maybe but noisier and hotter than custom cards *twin frozr for example)

    seem there will be no custom cooled cards for titan x this time

    If i had more cash than sence id buy 2. That single card performance is exeptional stuff. Now we just need it to come down so the normal people can buy it.

    Been waiting for something to handle 4k gaming and VR and still haven't seen it yet. The 780's were miles off, big disappointment. The 980's were a bit closer. This is getting good now, but I'd never pay that much. Hoping by the time the VR headsets release later this year and early next year, there will be cards as fast as this for around £300-400 ish. SLI is useless if you happen to like a game that doesn't support it, so getting a very fast single card that can handle future upgrades (4k / vr headsets) is a big deal. I also hope the next generation which match this speed or beat it can do so without requiring water cooling.

    The leaked specs of the new AMD card puts it at exactly the same fps as this. It shows 60% faster than the r9 290x and when I worked that out for one of the games (at 1440p) it was the exact same fps as the Titan x. So hopefully once that shows up it will improve the prices. Hope it comes out at about 450-550 ish and not 800+ like this card. I also like the idea of the water cooled version so I don't have to do it myself.

    with the die size reported to be 632mm2 - its right on TSMC`s fabrication limit of 650mm2.

    this is it people - the full fat Maxwell. and no DP on the quadro cards either (same core)

    so either a die shrink or new tech for the next time out
