    Hi

I am a Finnish fellow, Tuomas Soikkeli
I have done some mods... Some years ago.

Some reasons modding wasn't so important to me. And i kind of forget the whole thing.
Now it tastes good again. :D

    I have started a project.

I would like to introduce my sponsors:

    Thank you!

    Here is where i started:

I had made earlier this kind of case:

It supposed to be very simple, kind of "testbench".

After looking it couple of days, i noticed that its just lame. :eeek:
So this project log is telling you how i think it should be looking. :)

I had only on drive slot, but i wanted to have an optical drive, and a Bitfenix Recon fan controller.

    That was i little problem.

    Lets solve that little issue:

    Here's the Recon:

    I love it. :)

Still i wanted to tear it to pieces:

    :duh:

I made some metal work with Dremel:

    Simple stuff..

Then i did some cuts for the Recon's frame too:

Aha! Now you might get the idea:

    Here's the measures in millimeters,
for the support plate for the lcd. If you wanna avoid your warranty too. :D

    My plans for the frame..

Somehow, it looks better in the plate. :sigh:

    Some Dremeling and drilling later:

    And after bending:

    And some test fitting:

Now i have a frame for my thingy.

Then i needed some cables, used old ide-cable to do some wiring.

Soldered cable to the lcd screen:

And for connecting the touch panel, i used these:

Led-switch cables taken for the Bitfenix Spectre led fans.

    Soldered them:

Also lcd's backlight needed to be connected:

Everything fits inside the face plate:

    Looks nice. :)

Did some modifying to the board to get it little smaller, an attached it to the frame.

Then it was time to make hinges:

    Couple of these.

    One this kind of thing:

And after many tries i got things working as i wanted:

Welded the hinges for the lcd's support plate:

    And here it is.

    Closed:

    And open:

    More Dremeling:

And, after bending and welding the frame started to be ready:

    Again, everything fits nicely:

Then i had loads of soldering to do:

    Wires for the backlight:

    And the lcd:

I twisted the pcb-board to get the fan connectors etc, in better place.
So, wiring had to be twisted too.

    Everything connected:

    Power cables:

    And testing:

And with the fans and temperature sensors connected:

    Everything works as supposed.

    Im happy. :)

    To be continued...

    Thank you!

I use Kemppi MLS3000 Tig-welder for all welding.

Thank you. I hope it will. :)

That's F***ing gr88888t mate ! Absolutly awesome idea and building. Having the idea is one thing, but being also able to build it is pure talent (+rep and 5 well-deserved stars to you).

I'll follow this with great attention.

Good to see you at it again.:D
    That mod is really clever.
As for the kid, he seems to understand you can't jump off a 2 story building and land on your feet. -That's a good thing.

    Hey Tuomas,

It's really really and I do mean really cool to see you back.

I've always thought your skill-set and abilities as a modder are pretty much beyond approach, so I'll be following this for sure.

    A fellow modder from Finland,

Thanks Cheaps. Yeah, its a good thing. Allthought he has a little brother who haven't understand that. ( if my memory doesn't fail.. he has over 60 stitches.. :) )

    Thanks Darkened.
Nice words from you, allmost makes me blush. :D

    Update

    Case needs feets.
And when case has named like this one..

I thought that feets has to have size... and size is what matters. :sigh:

First i welded together four 6mm thick plates. Then i drilled some holes.

Then it was a time to do some machining.. Milling with manual thing to be precise..

looking this kind of pictures is.. So boring..

Lets jump over that part and look finished parts for the feets:

    :thumb:

Some countersuncking.. (or how it should be written)

Then i needed some little parts, first i drilled them all. After that i cutted them of with dremel.

    Little parts done..

After welding parts together, some sanding and little polishing..

And there we have rough enough feets for the case.

But those ain't done yet.. But lets continue with them later.

    Thanks for watching

    Hope you liked!

    Thanks mates. :)

    Update

First i did some cuts and openings for the case.
    Those will be needed later.

Then it was time to remove that ugly green paint.
I wonder what iwas thinking about in first place..

Sandplasting in outdoors.. Hmm. i wonder who is going to clean that mess. :eeek:

    And after that.

    Much better.. :)

    Case will be powdercoated later..

Thanks for watching. I hope you like it.

Love the innovation so far, taking a IDE cable and soldiering it to a new display is impressive especially with the hidden drive above it.

As I have told everyone in the past don't worry about the English we will figure it out by the pictures and google translate if we have to.

Great progress and I am subbed.

    Update (some kinf of)

I had a couble days possibility to use milling machine.

So i decided to use it as much i can.
After that i have to do rest of the parts using hand tools.

In these days its not so easy for me than it was earlier.
I have a disease that have taken some of my prestidigitation.
But i think i can handle with it. :)

    So... Lets go.

I marked guidelines for milling, and placements for drilling.

    Driller some holes..

And learned for the first time...

It saves hours if you cut of the extra material with corner grinder,
than take it off with the milling machine.

Ooh, how stupid man can be sometimes. :D

And again some boring milling pictures...

    And finally machined parts..

Loads of sanding to do to get those shiny..

Then i used my genius pressing tool.. -Brutal forcing machine- indeed

A mold, sheet of acid proof steel, and finally over 20 tons of weight..

And you can get a cup..

    Some cuts..

And making a hole with Dremel and rotary file.

    And theres a hole..

Part isn't done yet.. What those are, and where they are going. Again ill show you later.

    ^ Sorry :D

Here's the Motherboard i will use..

These antennas will be modified to day.. Those are ugly as hell like that.

So more coming in this evening.

Thanks for watching and Have a nice day!

    And finally..

I would like to thank Dremel for their support.
