    Hello compadres,

BF3 is a coming, and based on my addiction to BF2, I need an upgrade to keep myself sane and happy.

    Current specs are:

    e2200 @ 3Ghz
    EVGA 680i A1
    3Gb DDR2
    8800 GT 512Mb
    Corsair 500W PSU
Fractal XL and a boat load of HDD's

Anyway, I dont even think its worth trying to play BF3 on that set up, so I think an upgrade is needed. Problem is, i've sort of dropped out of the loop on the current range of processors and chipsets etc.

In terms of budget, it rather depends on what I can get and whether it represents value for money. I'm sure I could make a perfectly good system using 775 and second hand parts, but I guess jumping upto 1155 would be the best bet.

In that case, what should I be looking at for about £500 or £700? I'd be after CPU, mobo, ram and a GPU :thumb:

    2500k £160 motherboard £100 8gb RAM £40
    CPU cooler?
    Graphic wise pretty much 560ti<570<580
AMD are rather overpriced at the high end currently.

Don't blame you for ditching a 680i, they are very hot running!

    PROCESSOR: Intel i5-2500K
MOTHERBAORD: Asus P8P67 Pro/Deluxe, either as both have 8 internal SATA ports.
MEMORY: Corsair Vengeance Jet Black Low Profile 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz (2*4GB)

What resolution do you game at? Need to know for a graphics card recommendation.

Also a Dark Rock Advanced CPU cooler is the dogs! :thumb:

    I would go for:

    CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K - £169
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/inte...-33ghz-hd3000-igp-850mhz-6mb-cache-95w-retail

    Mobo: Asus P8P67 Rev 3 - £106
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...r3-sata-iii-6gb-s-sata-raid-pcie-20-(x16)-atx

    RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz - £56
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-...te-pc3-12800-(1600)-non-ecc-cas-9-9-9-24-135v

GPU: MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr II - £379
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1536...gpu-800mhz-shader-1544mhz-512-cores-plusfree-

Slightly overbudget at £710. You might want to check whether your PSU is up to the job though with your boatload of HDD's.

That is exactly the setup I have bought JTG hahah ;D I had to change to LP Vengeance just in case of the Aftermarket cooler being too big :p

    It should destroy BF3 :D

I'd change out the 580 for a 570, depends on your budget, if I i'd had the budget I'd have gone for a 580 just because I could. But my SC 570 ran BF3 beta no problem. It got up to 70c during gameplay but overal everything ran great.

I'm using the Mobo suggested and have no complaints either, great board and not forgetting two sata 3 connections on the board xD

Don't jump just yet, BD is literally just round the corner... maybe see what AMD has to offer.

I'd be running it at 1920x1200, I want good settings, but not too fussed about ultra and ridiculous levels of AA and AF

Then it's just your budget, my build was expensive only because I needed everything. next....12 months or more I wont need everything, or maybe just update certain things, like better keyboard and mouse. But I do love the one I have right now xD

So it's just down to budget.

Sounds like an Asus 1GB GTX560Ti DirectCU II TOP would be perfect for you.

I'm running the BF3 BETA on my current build with the "ultra" settings and it doesn't look too bad for what it is. With that said the game is glitchy and I cannot judge how smooth the graphics look on my machine because of all the glitches. I imagine the finished product will be able to run more efficiently than the beta version.

I'm running 1920x1080 so there is a slight difference in resolution. By the way, I'm not saying all you need is a 560 or that you wouldn't benefit from a more expensive card... but I think it would probably be enough if you are, like you say, not too fussy about the ultra high settings. I suppose nobody will know for sure until the actual game gets released.

Apparently the 'Ultra' settings of the Beta are in fact 'High' by default.

I did wonder why my GTX460 SLI rig worked so well on Ultra, turns out it wasn't! :waah:

GPU wise I'd say either a 560Ti or 570. My sign rig ran Bf3 around 50-60fps on high, dropped a notch with FRAPS recording though. What others have said really and you should be fine.

Not straight away, no. Too much hassle, and I dont have the time to tinker in the way I used to.. One day soon I'll go back, thats for sure.
