Decided to delid my 6700k to see what temps I would get. Used razor blade method. Once cleaned used coolabratory ultra between the die and IHS then used go extreme on the heat sink. Results in pic. before after
Delidded 7700K here. No brainer using a Ncase M1. Bought it like that, although I have been known to chop them off using the same method. Let us know how you get on.
Is the picture not showing? Idle temp 32c down to 27c Max temp 80c down to 63c Both run on intel stress test for a quick 10min blast
I have a standard 6700 (non K), so it doesn't really get warm anyways, but if R5 doesn't do what I want it to (or they just don't release any fudging motherboards!) and I migrate this setup into the ITX case I have I will no doubt give this a go myself - just to take the edge off. Seems to be a fairly good average of 15-20% cooler from the results I've seen, that could be the difference between a CPU running during the winter vs spring in terms of ambient delta.
Pic is too tiny to make out anything. That said when I popped the lid off my i7 6700 I got a 40 degree drop (100 to 60!).
