    Could try Warframe.

Although it's a TPS rather than FPS...
With no story per se (but lots of lore and stuff)...

    ...but it's something different.

HALF LIFE 2 and the accompanying episodes!

Teel, how could you have missed it out! :D

+1 on Bioshock, I've finished playing Infinite, and have started a second run through, paying more attention to all the little bits. Great game.

Can't go wrong with Borderlands 1 & 2, fit that criteria perfect.

    Bioshock Infinite
    F.E.A.R 1 & 2 (Avoid the 3rd game though)
    Fallout 3 & New Vegas
Farcry Trilogy (2nd is good but constant respawning enemies starts wearing thin)
RAGE (Some people don't like it much, I thought it was fun)

There is a lot of rpgs mentioned here, but there are so few fps that have a story worth mentioning that you have to mention the hybrids...like the Deus Ex series which no one has mentioned? Madness to leave those jewels out!

Also if graphics aren't important you simply must try System Shock 2, Quake 1, 2 and the first Unreal.

I also enjoyed Halo, Unreal II and Prey.

Is there anyone left on Earth who HASN'T played Half-Life? Apart from lost tribes in the Amazon?

You've got to check out Borderlands if you haven't played it already. It meets your criteria spot-on. You may also like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon - it's a bit short, but too hilarious to ignore.

Would also second Fizzban's recommendation for Halo: Combat Evolved. Compelling sci-fi story, lots of shooting.

If you can tolerate a third-person perspective, and you haven't played it yet (seriously the game has been out since like 2007 or something), try Mass Effect. The sequel has better combat, but the story won't make much sense without playing the first game.

You must play Half-Life if you haven't. It's just a Testament to PC gaming. I'm not even a big FPS fan and I love Half-life, even now.

Bioshock infinite is a great FPS (the first two games weren't my cup of tea), quake, far cry games.

Deus EX can't be ignored either; the new one isn't amazing like the first two though.

I agree, but Sleeping dogs isn't really an FPS.
