I really like the look of the murder box. Check it out, and write them. I am pretty sure that they are all hand built, so they could take color scheme and other requests (maybe)

ibuypower.com (or something like it) my friend has a comp from them, from a few years ago, still runs great. they just put parts in a case basically, not to expensive ether.

They're good, but you're paying for a name mostly. keep that in mind.

If he has the cash, why not spec him a machine and get the shop to make it run or you do it and pocket the difference..

    build a machine for him. pre-build is a rip-off.

if he's dead-set on blowing his cash on a pre-build, voodoo/hp or alienware/dell are both good.

Nope. You've included everything which is important :thumb:

4GB RAM wouldn't go amiss though?
Even though XP can't use it all... RAM is so cheap just now, it would be a sin not to spec 4GB (2x 2GB)
And it needn't cost any more than the RAM you've chosen!
You can order this 4GB (2x 2GB) Patriot Extreme Performance PC2 6400 for just $75 (mail-in rebate price)... the same price as the 2GB (2x 1GB) Crucial Ballistix you've selected

I'd personally not go for OCZ PSUs.

Oh, sorry for that. OCZ PSUs are good and expensive, but Corsairs are (at least) equally good but cheaper.

    1. Never, EVER, build a pc for anyone you know. EVER. It ends up having free unlimited lifetime support - from you. Save yourself headaches and time, and "serious problems" that become "no big deal" when there is a price attached to support.

    2. OCZ gamexstream has out of spec ripple at high loads. Don't waste your time.

    3. If he doesnt need 2 video cards or raid, the IP35-E is a much, much cheaper alternative that is almost as good.

    4. iBuypower, along with cyberpowerinc, are pretty low on the rankings of good manufacturers. Think of them as the Kia and Hyundai of prebuilts, with AVAdirect being closer to mercedes, and alienware being a Lincoln (fancy outsides, fancy name, same old crap).

    5. Good luck. you will need it.

Actually, looking at the prices, they are actually cheaper than Corsairs. But their price range is really big (like the lower wattage model is $100 and the high wattage model is $250). Why is that?

    Proof.

I think these sites don't stress the PSUs as much as they do at JonnyGuru. Not sure however.

I totally forgot about ava direct lol brain fart. BBq does have a very good point about never build a pc for a good friend or of anything for that matter you have the risk of losing a good friend when something goes wrong with the pc or anything for that matter. I think ill just steer him towards ava direct. There prices arnt really that terrible, yes i could build a system cheaper but this is a great alternative. Can you give me some advice on a power supply i just went with ozs because of all the hype but if there is a better one for less ill go that route. And can you recommend a good cpu cooler or did i pick out a good choice?
