Am I the only one who absolutely detests netbook prices at the moment?

Since they were released, the format has stayed almost the same, but prices have skyrocketed. I'd really like to get one, but even faulty ones cost over 50 quid!

Anyone agree with me, or knows where to get a decent netbook for a reasonable price?

a decent netbook should set you back betweem 160 and 200 quid.

faulty ones obv depend on fault.

For a decent netbook i'd be looking upto 300 quid, but would be aiming for somewhere around the 250 mark.

They were cheaper to begin with because the market became absolutely flooded with them.

You're right, the specs seem to remain the same but the prices aren't dropping like you would expect old tech to do.

There is also now the windows tax that wasn't as prevalent on the earlier Linux based ones.

I would be fine with Linux on a netbook, the lighter the OS the better in my opinion. Also, why would you want windows on a netbook if all they are designed for is the web, email and a bit of movies. Linux never really has any viruses anyway :)

I really think they should consider making the netbooks with linux again ..

There's a couple in the marketplace atm, including a mighty fine MSI Wind.

The reason why netbooks doesn't drop in price because there is no reason for that. There was a minor CPU upgrade (Atom 230/330 to 410/510, graphics from 945G to NM10/ION/ION2). Except that, nothing happened. Zacate is nowhere to be seen, and next gen Atoms will be out next year.

So the reason for no price drops is that there were minor upgrades in CPU and GPU area, but nothing major, and the source prices didn't drop enough.

And then there is the tablet factor - the demand for netbooks dropped thanks to the tablets, so you have lower demand for netbooks.

This all together means, that netbook prices will not changed too much until next-gen Atoms are out.

I would definitely prefer using Ubuntu.

I was just searching for netbooks, when I found a £360 one for £60 on kikatek. Then it said none available :wallbash:
