So what happens to those who purchased the games on Steam in the UK?

We'd be interested to know that too - anybody here happen to buy either game on Steam?

Only mildly relevant, but we've started a f/book group about the DRM. Really need legions of gamers to join!!

I'm currently waiting on official response from the IPO. trading standards are waiting for the opinion of the IPO, however say "The term that you must be connected to the Internet to play the game could potentially be seen as unfair". Not very committal I know, but better than nothing at this point.

I'd like to hear more on the actual reason. Seems a bit vague currently.

We had over 200k votes on a petition vs MW2, i doubt will will do much :p

Although i do still think it has something to do with the DRM.

Makes sense - Valve don't want to get the blame for Ubisoft's George Orwell DRM falling over again.
AC2 wasn't released on UK Steam as far as I know, but what else uses it?

Well I'd hope it's only the UK because gamers aren't prepared to get ripped off and sold shonky software. Valve already had one hassle with GTA IV and that wasn't even DRM the PC game was just broken at launch for some buyers, and the last thing Valve wants to do is to have to refund anyone again.

Heh, I was very near to asking Steam for a refund on Bad Company 2 cos it was almost unplayable at launch for me. :(

Anyway, I hope it was the DRM issues that forced Steam to tell Ubi to shove it.
I like buting games on Steam, I like it when its a seamless experience like L4D or TF2.
I HATE it when crap like GFWL is forced on you.
If they made it optional and incentivised you to use it I could handle that.
Its this behavious of making it so integral to the game that you can't play even single player without it that really narks me off. :(

They are still available on the Dutch Steam store so it appears it is indeed restricted to the UK.

Are you sure that C&C 4 is removed from UK Steam Store?

C&C4 is EA, but it has it's own 'always online' requirements, some info here.
Of course, they say it's becuase you need to be online to collect achievements or some such, it's up to you if you think that it's worth it, or even worth encouraging.

I dont really understand why they even use DRM. There were cracked versions of silent hunter 5 and c&c4 only a few days after launch...so what are they gaining by doing it???

I'd love to see Bit do an interview with some publishing houses explaining their reasons behind picking secureROM et al.
Any chance of that happening?? :)
