I got an original Mac Mini back in the day and it was a good option back then.

With the performance you get it is still a great alternative to a Nettop however if you do not plan on using the performance a SFF Core2 pc can provide it is VERY expensive.

Makes less sense to me today than when the first Mini was released which was very much a desktop PC at a low price through and through.

Not really much of an upgrade from the old one - still a low power Core 2 Duo in there, but it's good enough I spose. Box is really very sexy, but SD card reader is right around the back? :duh: that's easy to use isn't it.

And firewire 800 but no USB 3? Urgh. Agree with Gordy - $699?? $200 too expensive. I'll buy the Macbook thanks :p

Apple has the brand now - it doesn't need low prices unfortunately. Supply vs Demand.

And as a Mac user, how many USB3 devices do you have plugged in to your Mac? Zero, I bet. Now do a count of regular USB 2 and FW800. More than Zero? Thought so. :)

I'm not a Mac user, but given there are hundreds if not thousands of USB 3 devices/external drives hitting the market since January, rather than five existing FW800 things, I know what I want :p

If I was a Mac user I wouldn't have plugged USB 3 devices into my Mac because NONE OF THEM HAVE USB 3! :hehe:

Ive yet to find a USB3 device I want to use, but it will happen.

For the price of this bit of kit is should include all the standard connectors, USB3 is even set to appear on value motherboards in the next month or so. Bizarre decission by Apple on this one thats for sure.

Man... apple's hardware is just so damn pretty.
I've always had a weak spot for the mini... really want one of these...

Not really that bizzare - As you say, there isn't really anything you'd want to plug into a Mac via USB3... It'll get added to high end Macs (Pros) first once there's more of a demand, and then it will filter down to the more consumer orientated devices.

And remember, Apple still doesn't officially support Blu-ray... :p

I had a play with one today. The build quality is pure insanity. It's absolutely crazy sexy. It's hard to fathom quite how they've squeezed it all in and such. The casing is just beautiful. Very nice...

Still with the firewire? Seriously need to drop that and make the ports USB3, and have the card reader a little more accessable.

Oh and drop the price below $500.

Ouch, fairly expensive for the spec. I can see the attraction but they aren't for me.

I've always had a soft spot for the Mac Mini, having used a top spec first generation one at a photography studio I used to maintain Windows hardware for. This makes it even sexier and more tempting - I just love their design on the new version! Unfortunately I can't justify buying one as well as my MBP later this year (as well as an iPad for the sofa? Maybe ;)) but It's more than impressed me!
