Case Mod - In Progress COD MOW3 Power supply and cooler tested fitted 17/1/2012

Hello fellow modders,

My new build is under way.

I would like to thank Calle from



For providing me with a Fractal Design Array 2 case.

The parts im planning on using in this case mod are:

Intel i7 2600k,

ASUS P8H67I mini ITX board

8 gig of ddr3 ram,

Two solid state drives,

Atx power supply,

A full length graphics card,

Asetek 570LC liquid cooling unit,

Dvd slim line drive.




Front view of the case im trying to set the theme of a war atmosphere with dogtags of potential sponsors which will be stamped onto the dogtag for every single part used.



The left side view im using arylic and also bullet holes in the arylic for a war type look.



The right side view im going to be sleath modding the dvd drive into a ammo box and using a Asetek 570LC cooler into the side as well but will sit behind a crosshair fan grille.


Here is my first day on the job.



I taped up the case fully to avoid any accidents.



At the front of the case i need a spot for two Solid state drives so the orignal 140mm fan bracket will be reused into the case.



I have quickly sketched up a design how the Solid state drives will sit at the front of the case.



I then worked out where i got to cut in order to have good space for other parts.

and green led to light it up and so rubber washers for vibration dampering.

Update 23/11/2011

Hey guys,

Today i got a little bit done to the case i cut out the side window with a dremel and Jigsaw.




I marked out the window with a set square and a roll of masking tape for the corners.



My first cut along the top.



Side window cut out now i got to grind it back to the lines i marked.
Reason why i didnt cut right to the line was so i had room for error in case i made a mistake but all good now mistakes.

I'm hoping tomorrow i can find some time to grind to the lines and have a nice looking side window.

Im itching to get the side window done i left myself alot of filing and grinding but all good thats what a dremel is for.

Hey thanks for the kind feedback im looking forward to getting this mod complete.

Seems like every time i do a little bit more to it i get new ideas of how to make it look even better.

Ive always like Fractal Design cases i think this case is awesome the metal is so easy to cut but its so strong.

I'm looking forward to receiving the Asetek cooler i wanted to do something different but practical.

I always see full size case mods i want to do something different this time to a mitx case and put as much detail into it but also have really good airflow.

 

Side window fully cut out properly 24/11/2011

Hey i got some work done today overall for my first side window cut out i have ever done i think i did good tell me what you guys think.



I added some scrap u channel until i paint the case just in case i missed some sharp edges.



Its starting to come together now in my head.



Here is how im hoping the Asetek cooler will sit in the case.

Hey thanks for the kind feedback.

While eating some Dim Sims and chips i came across a something in my mind and then i was like its a surprise for the side window i want it to have a extra something special.

Hey good news guys i might of obtained a Ocz vertex 2 60 gig solid state drive i will know by tomorrow morning.

Then i can mount it temp and have the perspex marked out to hold my solid state drives.

This mod is coming along nicely

 

Hey guys i have got myself a solid state drive to use in my case mod its a 60 gig sata 2 but my plan is to get another one of the same model and raid them to match a sata 3 drive.

When i receive the drive i will,
Finish off my solid state drive tray and add some detail to it as well.

I'm very excited

 

I'm struggling to find a atx power supply mounting bracket in Australia i have a new solution.



Kinda a example of where im going to cut i do need 2 holes either side to mount to the Fractal Design case with pop rivets.

This idea will work please stayed tuned when power supply arrives i will measure out where i need to cut both cases.

why not find a old beige case and cut one out of their.. instead of taking stuff from your antec 300?

 

Hey guys,

I ended up cutting out most of the power supply bracket for the Array 2 case this is what i done so far.



The panel panel of the Antec 300 case.



Cutting into the side of the panel.



One piece off.



I'm just testing a little bit to see what it will look like when cut down a bit more.



Nearly finished cutting it to the size i need then i got to cut the Array 2 case to fit to it.

I understand the steel of the Antec 300 case is flimsy so i will be using a power supply rubber damper to give it some reinforcement.

I'm hoping the power supply arrives tomorrow to test fit it all into place.

Hey yeah i should of did a bit of work to the cut out of the power supply piece i took off the Antec 300 case the bottom piece snapped off while cutting it to size.

Back to the drawing board just a minor setback its ok i wont give in.

Hey guys i have thought of a idea im going to get a power supply mount made i am just doing up a design for it.

Shouldn't take too long for it.

I ordered some para cord today going to sleeve my power supply when it arrives.

Stayed tuned guys.
