So, I took my bike in for servicing after a few accidents (I know bad month). Bike is a sv650 k3 - bought for £800 with now 20k miles Damage so far, Front wheel is not in line at all (flattened out on the rim) Radiator bracket snapped (however can weld something on) Rear brake needs cleaning and rotor warped Front rotors warped, and piston had been damaged by previous owner plastics are all scrap anyways and valves already need work at 20k miles. rear brake pedal was snapped off by me and bodged a bolt through it, gear selector rod is bent and wrong size, all indicators different (keep smashing them hehe) and tires need replacing because of uneven wear from dodgey wheel So far basic work done, coolant, oil, filters etc. However getting a new front wheel at under £150 is proving difficult, and rotor costs on top. Engine apart from valves is sweet as a nut and pulls like new even better with the dodgey throttle. With mechanical labour at only £30 an hour (benefit of rural wales) and parts I think we can agree the repair total will be about or more then the bikes cost. Is it possible to claim on insurance at this stage? Or would it be best to sell/part it?
Phew. If you want to keep it, try and get a used front wheel with rotors from ebay or such, and some new levers shouldn't cost a ton. Brake pistons come in used as well. But really, if you keep dropping it, maybe it's a sign, because, well, you shouldn't. You can probably forget insurance as it'd be a total loss at this pricepoint
To be fair I've never dropped a bike on a public road and I've ridden over 4 years, 3 of which every day. The drops we're in the same place off a farm track, in the rain on mud on a 13 degree decline at a stupid speed but was unable to brake on the hill. Thanks for the comments though, I did actually sell it a few days ago. Exactly here
Sorry then, it sounded like you dropped it on road multiple times and was happy about that. Hence the questioning of the frame of mind.
