£42 for an average cooler. Ouch.

Future tech indeed, perhaps Marty McFly and Doc Brown are familiar with these?

So when the fan fails or the bearing gets noisy, what then? You can't replace it so it has a limited life span compared to a cooler with a replaceable fan.

I find my Corsair H70 as noisy as my CNPS10X... which is currently cooling an i5 665K @ 4.4 GHz (itx !)

Really cool(sic) looking cooler...style and blue led ...but noisy?

Sorry Zalman, let me know when you've sorted the fan out.

Ironic that CNPS stands for Computer Noise Prevention System....

But where this cooler shines is that it allows RAM with tall heatsinks to be inserted and no issues with clearance.

    For some that means something.

I guess it only works when it's not installed in a case...

Surely this could perform better if they added more heatpipes, stretched the fins across the gap in the middle and put fans on each side of the coller in a push/pull setup? Then they could use quieter fans and it would probably cool better too. Zalman, make this happen!

Finally, a review to Zalman's 9900 range! I saw this a few months ago and thought: "Ohhhhh, shiny!" and wanted one so badly. The thing is, is it way better than the CNPS 9900 LED or not?

The fan in the middle does the push/pull setup all by itself because of the cooler's design. I have the genesis of this one, the CNPS 9900 LED and never have seen a review from bit-tech about it. Did you not get a sample from Zalman or just passed you by? just out of curiosity.

The original was all copper and a 120mm blue led fan with pwm. I paid €53,10 for mine.
For the record, its fins are blood and skin thirsty.
Cleaning is quite a feat only with air and brush so I recommend what I did with mine. Had mine in a pyrex pot with a vinegar-water solution and gently boiled it. All the goo came out and it was brand new shiny again.

For this new version, I don't know if the same is applicable

I have one of these installed in a Core i7 2600K system I recently built.

Yes it's expensive. Yes, the installation procedure could definitely use some major improvement. No, it's not silent. But... It does an excellent job of keeping my CPU nice and cool AND, for those who care about such things... it looks so much better than the "spare case fan lashed to the side of a boxy radiator" design everybody else seems to be stuck on that there's no comparison.

This is by far and away better than the 9900 LED

Here's a couple other reviews that have been around for a while:
    http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1468/1/
    http://www.guru3d.com/article/zalman-cnps-9900-max-review/1

I also read somewhere else that the noise with the inline voltage reducer is quite fine, while not silent, it is around the same level as things such as Graphics cards. And only makes a couple degrees difference on an Intel system.

I personally have one for my Sandybridge system, however I havn't got all the parts yet (mobo/cpu) so i havnt been able to get a personal exprience. Plus, in Australia the 9900MAX is the same price as the Frio, not 10% more ;)

    Sorry, 20% more! Wowzer!

Although Australia may be getting ripped with the frio, wouldnt surprise me.. The gtx580 for example is about US$500, but is about AU$650 + . but the exchange rate is roughly 1:1 atm.. A $1000 PC in the US would cost about $1400-$1600 here..

Tech pricing is a strange science!
