Case Mod - In Progress Project KURO: CM 690III by Jesse Palacio

hey folks. since i missed the opportunity to share my work log here on my previous build CENTURION, i thought i'd share here my work logs for my next project: KURO. Kuro is japanese for BLACK. this build will feature a dark color theme. yes, i know the color scheme is pretty generic, but that's the challenge.. making it look different. although i do not have an idea on what parts i'll be putting inside this case mod (and how to get them), i will focus first on the case itself. "every journey begins with a single step.."

first order of business, remove the HDD cages. i like how these werent riveted on. just a few screws, and they are off.




one thing i also noticed is, the revision has rubber grommets for the cable pass through now. Thank you CM for listening.

UPDATE:

still waiting on some new tools to work with, so for now..






i dont have pics of the painting and priming process.. my hands were dirty. but after 2 hours:





so far so good. =)



did the same for the top chrome lining too. =)

 

tiny update. took a quick break from customer builds to do some work on KURO







i know it's not alot, but i needed some cash to help me fund this project. i'll be back to focusing on this build very very soon.


Update:

i had a PSU cover lying around, so i modded it a bit.. and placed the KURO name. paint is still wet.. too excited to see how it would look.

 

some goodies came in today. thank you Icemodz.com and Mundi V.

 

ive been out a few weeks trying to make little cash to fund this project.. then comes kid's school bill, so i threw the goal of getting a new motherboard out the window..

anyhow, i decided to just build KURO.. so i would get a better idea on what i could do with it, and have little to no issue about compatibility, or mis-fitting things.

this is how it is now. will work from here.




didnt like the thickness of my orginal PSU cover, so i decided to make another one.





perfect fit. =) painting tomorrow. =)

Made a CPU block cover and side 5.25 bay cover. didnt have my camera when i made them. but here they are, installed.

It looks very nice and clean.

Too bad about the original psu cover. I really liked it.

 

bent some acrylic for the HDD bay cover. this is the reason why, before painting.. it is imperative that you wash the surface first.. preferably dish washing soap. i got too lazy, so now the work has been doubled. get it right the first time, is always the shortest way to go.

so today, i had a little free time.

cut out the Kuro logo.

bent some acrylic for the final.. (promise) power supply shroud. then installed white LEDs into the case

thank you. i was starting to feel discouraged about posting here, because i didnt get any replies at all. lol. yeah, i know, it's not an awesome scratch build or a beasty watercooled set up, but im really having fun building it. thanks again. =)

 

No, you just don't know the bit-tech comunity. We talk if we realy have something to talk about. You build is clear and nice, so we can just watch until the final and applause to finished build. So, common! Do it the best!

 

front panel re-tuned. often, it's the little stuff that counts.

The front and gpu cover look great, but I prefer the old psu cover, it goes better with the rest

No actually, dish soap tends to leave a thin layer of residue, it's better to use benzene or thinner instead. (On metal parts, not on plexi/plastics)

 

it was acrylic i was painting on. thinner or benzene would be overkill for it. hehe. but on metals, thinner all the way. the squeeky sound of properly dried soapwashed plastic has worked wonders for me over the years. ive been painting since highschool. =)

as far as the PSU cover, yes. the older one i made was the best i liked too. but the acrylic on that was too thin. didnt feel solid, like the 3/16 ones im used to using. thank you man. =) i just noticed we are now friends on facebook! cheers!
