Anyone clued up as to what became of the Homeworld License?

I know it was due to be auctioned off in April with final bids required by April 15th which is today but still no news!

I expect it will take a few days for the bidding results to filter out, and press releases to land. I'm hoping some clever sausage will buy Homeworld and re-release them on Steam...then maybe make a new one.

IIRC a company on kickstarter picked it up.

Homeworld 3 is my most wanted game ever (bar perhaps Star Citizen or X Rebirth).

In retrospect that project strikes me as something of a scam to be honest and thankfully didn't get the necessary funds through kickstarter! The $50,000 target for such a well respected IP was ridiculous, it'd never go for that amount. If it does then I regret not mortgaging my house to buy the Homeworld IP and then get minted from a STEAM sale! :D

    Then you'll love this...

I was getting excited but then found out it's going to be a multiplayer thing. I'm a single player kind of guy.

Yup, though as you say, I am somewhat skeptical. I wish Relic were still on the case - given the excellent game improvements from the first game to the second, the third would've blown people's minds (albeit with an even more questionable story line than the second).

To be honest, I don't think $50k is enough to buy the licence...or even the $58k they got (minus KS and Amazon processing fees). As an IP it is worth more - even if you only ever re-sell the original games. They'll be refunding the people who pledged, as long as they follow through with that promise.

Mid-May seems to be when the deals will be public.

I'd be shocked for it to go for 50k as you would make it back just rereleasing the games onto steam np.

One of the big publishers will take a punt is my guess maybe sega they have a huge amount of Rts games now.

Don't think a kick starter with 50k is going to do it. Would love to see it but not enough budget for the task at hand.

As you can see, I'm a massive Homeworld fan.

Not sure what's happened to the IP, but that Kickstarter project doesn't look to promising.

I just wish Relic can release a similar game, it doesn't have to have the same Homeworld title/IP, just similar ground breaking space RTS game.

Even just reselling homeworld 1 and 2 would bring in more cash than they were willing to pay for the licence.

50k always sounded like loose change compared to what it would cost to buy it.

Ill be shocked if it sold below 1mil.

It's good it sold to a serious bidder and hopefully one with enough common sense to want a return on their purchase! So a rerelease of both games in digital only form strikes me as a no-brainer.
