So I'm currently doing a build for a friend of mine, I know the 560 is coming out soon, but we have a budget of about £120-150 max. Just wanted to know what anyone thought of getting a previous generation 5870 or a new (at the moment) gtx 460 1gb version? He's going to be gaming at 1920 X 1080. Which would be faster? I'm guessing the 5870 is faster, but I'm not entirely sure, oh and he was going to buy a second hand 5870 as there going on fleabay for about £150 in case anyone is wondering. So any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advanced guys :D

I would definitely recommend the 5870 out of the two. There's currently quite a lot of different brands going for around £100 on eBay that are worth keeping an eye on

Wait a week and see if the 560 launch knocks some prices down a bit. The 5870 is the faster card by quite a way but never underestimate the value of a warranty!

thanks for the advice guys, probably going for a 5870 then, unless he'd rather have the 460, and thanks for the advice Yslen, but I think if we get a 5870, where going to try and get a xfx with there double lifetime warranty thing :]

gotta say 5870, but it could be worth seeing if the 560 release forces down the 460 prices

Depends what you're playing, from my own experience GTX 460 is the way to go, EVGA 10 year warranty F.T.W

Yeah don't buy now, there's going to be a few GPU releases in the next week or two which will (hopefully) drive prices down a notch.

If you had to buy now though, 5870.

At the moment the 5870, but wait for the 560 to arrive.

Yeah another vote for the 5870. GTX560 looks like it'll offer GTX470 performance, just about on par with a 5870. A 5870 for less than £150 is a cracking deal.

GTX460 prices have already started to creep down a little back to where they were pre Xmas so maybe we'll them come down even further but either way the 5870 will offer better performance at a similar price.
