Hi guys, Moving into a new flat and need to get teh internets. Unfortunately I'm not in a fibre optic zone, so no Virgin for me So, does anyone have any recommendations? I'm tempted to go with Sky as the bundle is good, but I'm not so sure their 'net is the best. Also heard good things about Be. Also, need the phone line to be activated + connect so any recommendations? Cheers!
Are you in a LLU area? If yes than Sky are a great choice and with the TV+BB+Phone package are decent value for money. In a non LLU area than it's pretty much Plusnet.
We use O2, cheapest option if you have an O2 contract phone, though I do hear the occasional complaint, usually about the non-llu service. We're right beside our llu enabled exchange so don't have any issues.
I use ADSL24's fibre broadband as I'm not in a virgin area (like BT Infinity but better download limits as far as I know) - might be worth a look if you're after faster broadband? Also check here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/home-phone-calls for information regarding phone line installation - it saved me a fortune!
One more recommendation for BE Unlimited. Stable, fast, no throttling, no dips, no downtime, genuinely unlimited usage and great customer service if you need it. The only downside for me is a couple aspects of their BE-Box router which needed a bit of tweaking in order to get a couple games running without an initial disconnection, but this is a small price to pay for such a satisfying service. I should probably go out and get a proper router anyway...
Say what you will about Virgin, I've had good experience with their internets (if not their customer service) and they provide proper broadband (where available)
So yeh, looks like I'm connecting my phone line via Post Office (doing a free set up between now and March) and then testing out Be
sotu1 Before you do anything. Do you live in a non-LLU area? If so, BT is the best option. I have the unlimited package. Got them over a barrel when changing providers. No traffic shaping, no FUP and finally no hidden text. They state 18 month contract, but if you look at 14.1 on the regulations it states that either party can end the contract with just 30 days notice. With no penalty. You pay about £23 a month, but with no restrictions and no trasffic shaping I couldn't argue
I have been with O2 for about 5 years, just never renewed the contract, just let it roll over. i pay £11 per month iirc, and have an unlimited download limit and on average 13mb download speed, so i am happy with it.
+ 1 for Be there Can't fault them I have been with them a few times moving house as a student always gone with them, unless I can get Virgin Media. Excellent service the nice thing is when you go live, I have always made a call been able to speak to someone with good knowledge and work together to get the speed higher. Only thing I can complain about is their fault process they follow BT's. As they are still renting the cabling from them, they insist you try another router that they send out even if you have tried another of your own.
Be Unlimited here. Truly unlimited, promised 16Mb, get 16Mbit... promised 2Mb up, get 2Mb up. Never any downtime, never any problems. It just works.
Hey, so I lef this thread alone for a few days due to work....what's an LLU area and how do I know if I'm in one?
It Samknows says you make sure you phone them and check, Samknows says I can with three different suppliers and not one actually can so its not all that accurate,
