Hi, My PC keeps on beeping from the moment it's switched on. It's a 2 beeps pattern (sounding like a siren) and they keep going on for ever, occasionally they will switch off, only to return somewhat soon after. The problem started when i had a graphics card that no longer functioned under WinXp, so I upgraded to Win7, and replaced the graphics card. The beeps started very randomly, and I kept on getting a CPU is Unworkbable error. I cleared the Bios, however no luck. I eventually took everything out one by one, and even tested the motherboard on it's own. In the end I even changed the CPU fan (as I did notice the temp had been creeping up). I've rebuilt the PC checking each component. It still keeps on beeping, and everything is working fine, even the temp is hovering around 40 degrees Celsius, going up to the 50's only when i have got a few apps running. Any advice on how I can stop the thing beeping? Usually the beeps mean - 2 short - cmos error 1 long 1 short - memory or mobo error continuous long beeps - graphics card not inserted properly continuous short beeps - power error However i would definately check on Abit manual in case they are different.
If it is continually sounding but the PC works, I'd suggest it is either a fan error or temp warning. Do you have a fan plugged into the CPU Fan header? is it turning?
The fan is plugged into the CPU Fan header and is turning. I just replaced it with another one that is more securely fitted just in case the old fan wasn't working as effectively as it should have been. With regards to it potentially being a CMOS error. I only took out the battery and put it back in, but didn't touch the jumper settings (to perform the reset) - Is it worth trying that?
Appendix H of the manual for your board lists POST codes. Is the system hanging? If so, what is the POST code? Otherwise see chapter 3 of the manual.
