I'm away this weekend and would like to use a chromecast or a Firestick in a hotel but knowing the available wifi it'll be limited.

Could I setup my phone as a hotspot and then use my other phone to cast (or still us my phone?)

Which gizmo would be best connecting to Plex?

    Cheers

    The man with 2 phones!

I normally take fire tv with me to hotels and use phone as hotspot, use Kodi with some plugins and can watch pretty much anything. I don't use Plex so not sure how you need to set that up.

Some phone providers don't like tethering though, and hd stuff really rinses data allowance too.

I was thinking the Firestick would be better like that.

My phone does say it has a tethering limit but unlimited data, how do they actually know?

I don't know how they know, but they do know, i'm with three and they are quite lenient with stuff like that, but sometimes if i've stayed away a while and tethered a lot I get a text to tell me to stop tethering so much. Changes depending on carrier.

Gifgaf don't seem to like tethering at all on their unlimited data plans.

It's to do with packet headers apparently. Some sort of dark art...

If you VPN on your phone, who is to know? Now thinking about it though, does that even work?

I generally intend to use my tablet to catch up on viewing when in hotels, but never seem to have free time in the evenings. Jelly.

you can get apps for vpns on phones.

Sonicwall do mobile connect which is good as it dials a nice secure ssl vpn to your endpoint, like an SMA or a licensed UTM.

you can get opensource and freeware stuff too.

Have less friends or be less sociable MT :D works wonders for my catch up time.
