I'm surprised they let the drivers have that much control of the fans anyway. Wouldn't it make more sense to have fan control limits set by the BIOS of the card so that the driver cannot set speeds outside of a given range?

Err, exactly when was it these drivers caused problems? My 8800 GTS 640 went down recently after showing symptoms of rebooting during games, black screens and crashes and so did a friends. I would like to send it back to nvidia with a picture of my middle finger if it was caused by their drivers.

Theres a couple fix's for that somewhere for Nvidia and ATI. Read it on another forum recently.. If anyone needs it let me know and I'll go find it.

That would be pretty much exactly the same time that strain was put on the card after installing 196.75 drivers.

    Greetings!

I experienced artifacts and slowness in games with the 196.75.
Solved that by increasing fan RPM in Precision. That saved my card.

Later went back to 196.21 because 196.75 caused anomalies in MPC.

These 197.13 seem to solve both issues.

But nVidia really lost it with drivers lately, besides this problem there was also a six (6!) month period where ETW with Shader Model 3 enabled would have missing objects in game.

damn, where the hell is the Windows 7 64bit version of 197.13? I try searching for the beta drivers and yet all the results are 32bit only :-(

This bug killed mine and 5 of my mates nVidia cards.
They were all of different types, but the same driver was responsible.
Well done nVidia! you've alienated many fans.
Will only consider an ATI card now.

yes yes very funny. Using the nVidia website's own Driver search function for 64bit drivers only results are 32bit drivers. little more help and less sarcasm thankyou very much
