Downloaded - now installing. 30 mins according to the installer. Having to post via iPhone as reboot required after initial setup.

GREAT news... I'll give it a month or so (credit card needs to recover), but ESPECIALLY the boot disc bit is GREAT news.

that Mac Mini for £530 looks tempting.......

stopping myself from buying: no use for it, still have to start up my desktop for gaming. £500 to save 80w of electricity not worth it.

All installed, nosing around now. Full screen safari nice. gestures are cool.

Launchpad = iPad UI for apps.

    Looks pretty.

But there is one major stupidity - try long pressing the keys. Have fun writing FFFFUUUUUUU on Lion :).

But it's quite clever with it - hold down U or O, and you get options for accented characters. And the auto spell check works just like on iOS.

Ok - I give up. Where the hell does the installer package disappear to after it's done it's stuff and upgraded the machine? I can't find the thing anywhere - I've unhidden the Users/<user>/Library folder and looked in there (where it's supposed to be according to the how-tos) and it's not there. And it's definitely not in the apps folder.

    ??? confused.com.

According to the ArsTechnica review the installer creates a new partition for the installation source data. It could be in there, though I think that partition is less than a gigabyte if I read correctly. Maybe the installation deletes the .dmg after use?

I can't say I'm fond of the thought of an installation process automatically repartitioning my hard-drive for any purpose out of my control..

The visual changes to the interface are quite nice. I vastly prefer Lion's soft-cornered rectangles and subdued blues over the bubble-buttons and intense blues of the previous version.

Bah - can't find the bloody thing at all, so I've re-downloaded the installer (Option click on the button in the app store to get it again without having to pay again, and to get round the 'you already have this' message.

If you want to make a bootable disc or USB drive, do it before you install Lion, just in case it disappears on you like it did for me.

It'll still save me time, as I have another three machines to put it on... ;)

Isn't 2gig of RAM going to be a bit low these days?

As much as I like apple products, I do chuckle when they remove the optical drive and then say "the new Mac mini is more versatile than ever" with a straight face.
