After having lost a bunch of weight I'm starting to get into running and working out at the gym. What do people prefer? A small MP3 player or a phone strapped to their arm. Can I get a small clip on MP3 with a microSD slot for cheap or would I be better off with an arm strap?

It depends if you intend to use one of those smart bracelets [Fitbit et al], or *need* the phone stuff [GPS, run timing/distance apps etc.]...

If it's just to listen to your Katy Perry collection whilst running a cheap mp3 will probably do...

it's just in the gym so I don't need anything other than music. I will look into what I can get in China

I just take my phone with me. I run off the beaten track so having a phone incase i have a problem is more important. I do have an ipod shuffle but i find it a pain to navigate songs correctly and it doesn't hold much to be honest.
