I am building a video-editing pc around the new sandy-bridge 2600K processor. In the bit-tech review article it seems the sweet spot for memory is 1600MHz CL9. What would be the best 16GB kit to buy there seems to be so many brands and options available?

One word of warning: the memory controllers have serious issues hitting frequencies higher then specified (1333) once you start raising the amount of ram and the amount of slots filled. Most of them still hit 1600 with 16GB, but be prepared to have to run at 1333 to get more stability.

my primary concern is "video editing PC"

    what software ?

does it need a SB CPU and 16GB of RAM !!!

unless your doing pro-video editing its massive overkill

Indeed, 16gb is a massive amount of RAM which casual editing would not need and as posted above, maxing out the slots could require RAM to be slowed, so unless you really will be making use of that much RAM it won't be worth getting.

I'm about to build a rig for exactly the same use, are you also going to be using After Effects etc? What cabinet are/have you used - I'm looking at the RV02 or Fractal R3.

    Cheers.

Corsair Vengence 8GB kit for just over £100 is best perice/performance as far as i can see.

or just plain Corsair XMS3 8GB kit for £100, but they are 9-9-9-27 instead of 9-9-9-24 on those Vengence.
