I've literally just posted, but i wanted advice on this. My friend finally wasted his old, Pentium 4 rig and used this as an excuse to buy a new PC for some very occasional gaming, as well as light music editing for his band and the usual browsing etc. He only has a low res 1024x768 monitor which he's fine with keeping, not being the biggest pc guy. He also has a case, as well as a hard drive he's bought recently. He has £300 to spend and wants to be able to play some modern games, sims 3, skyrim as well as being adamant about having windows 7. Second hand you'd easily get at least a 6850 or GTX460. The gfx will make a much bigger difference when gaming. You can always beef up the CPU later but even the G530 offers a decent amount of power esp when going from a P4. Alternatively you could go with a base unit which comes with Win7 pre-installed since that's sucking up a lot of the budget, system builders get Win7 with a massive discount versus consumers.
