I've never noticed a Bit-Tech 'What's in your bag?' thread. So here it is.

This is my "This is what was in my bag this morning" list. The rucksack is my general all purpose 'take it with me' bag. It does the school run, the shopping trips and the days out down the park. Not having any sort of a social life away from the kids means it's not a 'down the pub' bag or one to take with me on sophisticated luncheon engagements (As if! That was a joke). It's my 'I need to cope with life' bag.

Bag Deuter Speed light 15. It was bought for me as a running pack, but I already have a 10l version of the same pack. It's big enough to throw all this stuff in, and some drinks and some warm tops for the kids. When packed full it makes a wonderful pillow under a shady tree :)
Purse Something leather and handmade I picked up years ago
Keys Camepervan, Car, House, Garage, Bikes, Parents house + Cheapo multitool
Shades Prescription sunglasses in a solid case
    Sick bags For the kiddos
Sun Hat It's summer time! Collapses into an internal pouch.

    Electronics:
In all honesty the iPad rarely goes in the bag. I use it for writing and never have time for that when out and about.
Phone iPhone 4S in Otterbox Defender case
Battery New Trent 12,000mAh + Cable
Tablet iPad Mini + Logitech Ultraslim Keyboard + Neoprene case + Cleaning cloth

    Sundries
All of these live in the little blue cube at the bottom of the bag. None of it is essential, it's all in that 'nice to have' category. The frisbee / flying disc is fairly new and super cool.
Bag Eagle Creak Pack-It Quarter Cube
Frisbee Sky Rider Micro. It gets used nearly every day after school with the kids
    Meds For migraine avoidance
    Tissues For kids noses
    Wet Wipes For kids...
Notepad Moleskin plain for me + Something awful for the kids to draw on
Pens A black Bic and a 4-Color for the kids
Tool Cheap knife + scrissors + screwdriver combination
Cord 4m of bank line. For den building, emergency belt, a swing for a soft toy, a skipping rope....
Safety pins There's also a few more clipped to the inside lid of the rucksack
    Eye Mask For sleepy time
Ear Plugs For sleepy time. There's a new spare pare to give out if needed.
    Contact Lenses
Hair Brush I've had it like for-ever. Handle broke about 15 years ago
Hair ties Often stolen by my daughter
Haribos Two packs of emergency energy for the kids

As you'll see in the lower pic, most of the stuff goes into the little blue quarter cube. With the phone + purse + keys essentials in the rucksack top pocket the bag ends up pretty much empty.

    What's missing:
I unpacked the bag this morning to check on supplies. I'm out of cereal bars, small plastic bags and my folding water bottle is on the rack drying. There's also usually a 3-way USB cable in with the battery so I can charge the GFs phone. I'm also missing an automatic pencil or two that usually lives in the bag. I never write in the moleskin with anything else.

In my bag today (a standard Tesco carrier in off-white), I have the following items (all used):

    • A screwed up ball of cling-film, containing some breadcrumbs and butter smears
    • A knot-tied, empty bag of Seabrook cheese & onion crisps, which also contains an empty individual Stilton portion wrapper
    • A browned apple core, still with some red skin to the base and top
    • An empty Penguin wrapper, in yellow, complete with some chocolate smears owing to the clement weather
    • The base and lid portions of a Tesco low fat apricot yoghurt
    • A small section of foam packaging from a parcel I received the other day

I think it's safe to say that I know how to live the high-life.

Mine as trainers in case I have to walk home of for a lunchtime strole.
Headphones and Bluetooth adapter so don't have to have phone out.

I imagine this change when I have kids.

Would love my Mrs to post her bag list! I never dare enter the pit

Wow ... you ladies never cease to amaze me with how much stuff you are able to fit into your respective bags-of-holding (+4 I suppose). The fact that you are able to lug around all that stuff makes me wonder how some of you apparently lack the underarm strength required to open jars - and I truly live in constant fear of the (few) times I am forced to dive into the pit of Sarlacc that is the missus' handbag). ;)

I am able to fit whatever I need on a daily basis into my inner jacket pocket, outside jacket pocket and trouser pocket. These items are as follows:

    - Phone (Samsung Galaxy S5)
    - Wallet
    - Keys
    - Blue plastic sleeves (for fitting onto my shoes when I go to collect the kids from kindergarden).

What is the idea behind the shoe covers? Keep the floor clean because the kids don't wear shoes indoors?

MY daily bag also revolves around the kids. As a man, pretty much everything is shoved into every crevasse in my trousers.

    In my Pockets I have;

    A Wallet, Inside the wallet is;
    • Nectar Card
    • Nationwide Bank Card
    • Santander Bank Card
    • Tesco Clubcard
    • A Useless amount of Change entire in 1p and 2ps
    • Walletsized toolkit
    • Expired bus tickets turned into Origami Swans

    A Set of keys which has;
    • House Key
    • Back Door Key
    • Automated Security Key
    • Encrypted 16GB USB Drive
    • Keyring sized Multitool (for those occasions you need a hex nut key outdoors for example)
    • Lego Darth Vadar Torch Keyring
    • Computer Switch Key

    And I keep a tiny pocket Sized Satchel in my back pocket that has;

    • Wet Wipes
    • Plasters
    • Miniscle Disinfectant spray

A Phone which is a Galaxy S3 that is Rooted running Paranoid Android with Boeffla Karnel. It's fast and zippy for the times I need it most.

I don't like carrying a big bag of stuff everywhere; that's what a children's changing bag is for

    As well as my tools (provided I have the car with me or another means of transporting them) there are two bags I never go far without;

    Laptop/gear bag (Crumpler Sheep Scarer);
    • Lenovo Thinkpad X230* in Crumpler Lamington 13" sleeve
    • Lenovo charger
    • 9 cell battery
    • 2x 2.5" 500GB USB3 external hard drives & cables
    • Logitech G700
    • iPhone charger & lightning cable
    • Legal pad
    • Misc stationery including pens, pencils, sharpies etc
    • Micro USB cable
    • Memory card reader
    • 5m Cat5 Ethernet cable
    • Nitecore D20 & spare AA batteries
    • Spyderco UKPK
    • iFixit pro tech tool pouch loaded with bare essentials
    • Pouch of small Knipex ESD pliers, cutters etc
    • Glasses in their case when they're not on my face!

    "Go bag" or overnight bag which always stays in the car (recently purchased Kelty Redwing 50);
    • Full change of clothes
    • Trainers
    • Small quantity of travel toiletries
    • Spare pair of contacts, case & bottle of CLS
    • Small towel
    • Snickers knee pads (used every day but kept in here)
    • Snickers work gloves (used at most jobs I need the overnight bag for)
    • 1.5 litre bottle of drinking water
    • Nitecore D10 & spare batteries
    • Meds including Nurofen, hayfever stuff at this time of year and diclofenac painkillers

When at school (work) I have a second laptop bag which is the more traditional briefcase type for now:

    • Dell Vostro 2520 - terrible plasticky thing but it's what they gave us and I've made the best of it with upgrades
    • Dell charger
    • Misc stationery including whiteboard markers, pens, pencils etc
    • Legal pad
    • A few folders of teaching notes, staff account details, class lists, guest & pupil sign in details etc
    • Scientific calculator
    • LCD screen cleaning kit
    • iPhone 4S 32GB (for work calls)
    • iPhone charger & cable

No matter where I am, I have my wallet, phone (32GB iP5S), one legal carry knife (currently Spyderco Squeak) and one small 1xCR123A flashlight (currently Nitecore EX10) on me at all times.

I've probably forgotten some stuff there, but that's most of it! Don't ask me to list the contents of the toolboxes (there's an old thread for that anyway) because I'll be here all day :hehe:

I also have a camera bag now, but I'll post that when I have more stuff in it ;)

    [edit]

Since people have been more specific about stationery, I'll go into some detail on what I'm carrying in the various bags as well.

I've always wondered why we don't have this thread!

My go everywhere, always with me, for any job to do with anything IT, I carry this about all day every day.

    • Hp 6460b Pro book - fully upgraded to max specs (sandy bridge i7 and max ram), rapidly approaching 3 years old doesn't miss a beat
    • Logitech M505 mouse
    • Ipad mini
    • Ajays 4 headphones
    • some usb3 external drives, 500gb and 1tb at the moment
    • 4gb and 16gb memory sticks
    • Victronix swiss champ
    • gerber suspension multitool
    • Wera ratchet screwdriver, and 30 odd bits (ryobi bits currently)
    • Multi crimp tool, mostly for different communications plugs, rj11 and rj45 mostly
    • Wire stripper, the type you spin round the cable on the end of your finger
    • rj** plugs, bag of
    • cage bolts
    • 2 - 5 fly leads (depending on how recently I had to donate/stocked up) - currently, a cat6 (MY CABLE) and a cat5e longish cable
    • Netgear 5 port switch, GS105e
    • KEYS! Keys to most of my client sites, 2 big bunches.
    • phone/pad/laptop/etc charging cables
    • 1 Sharpie (colour changes - currently a green one, never black)
    • 1 Ink pen
    • 1 box Anadin Extra
    • Essential software - boot disks and the like, just a jiffy bag full of disks
    • My sandwich box (currently empty, post lunch)
    • prescription sunglasses (or glasses if i'm wearing my sunglasses)
    • blank work orders

The one and only thing that I always need when it's not in my bag, usually the day after I take it out, but never needed the whole time it's in my bag:

    • External DVDRW

My bag is made by belkin, was cheap and is nearly 2 years old, so it's far from bad.

My bag really is heavy, I don't mind so much as it makes me feel at least like I am benefitting out of walking about Brighton with it on my back. It means I always have just about all the things I need for most job's I encounter. I have a couple of boxes of tools in my office as well for big jobs, but I don't carry them around all the time!

On my person whenever I'm not in the house (as soon as I'm in the house it all gets dumped out the pockets):

    • iPhone
    • Wallet
    • More keys, personal ones, house/car/office etc.
    • Tobacco, Rizla and Filters - Some kind of clipper, normally orange
    • Legal carry knife, another victronix one

Normally carry all my stuff in my pockets, its just a house key, wallet with a visa, some gift cards, cash, and ID, and my phone.

Any sporting thing will be a smallish gym duffel bag with the appropriate equipment plus shoes. Generally baseball glove, baseball cleats, batting gloves, a ball, couple water bottles, cup. Basketball is just a basketball and some water bottles.

Going out to fix computers is my old school bag. I'll bring my laptop, charger, an external Sata HDD dock, some precision screw-drivers, regular screwdrivers, an 8-in-1 screwdriver, knife, spare screws and zip ties, plus a couple USB keys.

Any road trip will be my laptop bag with just my laptop and charger, maybe some extra media on my USB keys.

My everyday work bag is a Berghaus Twentyfourseven 25, Just about the right size for everything I carry and it's comfortable enough to wear all day. (excuse the crappy pic!)

Contents should be fairly obvious from the pic:
    • 2x 1st Aid Kits (1 contains multiple eye wash/plasters/bandages etc.. the other has a couple of packs of celox/ foil blankets/ 50m paracord).
    • Deodorant.
    • Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1.
    • Toshiba Encore 8.
    • Socks (I hate wet socks so having spares is essential!).
    • 2x Water bottles and hydration tabs.
    • Card Reader.
    • Suncream.
    • Misc notepads and post-it notes.
    • Pencil case.
    • Fingerless padded cycling gloves (Makes getting over barbed wire much easier).

Stuff missing from the pic and currently in the car but usually in the bag includes: assorted painkillers, snickers bars, pepperami, and a pair of gaiters.
