I am upgrading my gaming machine and have started with CPU and Motherboard, 3570K and Asus Maximus V Gene.

I have a GTX660 card from Asus atm, but it does not seem to be fit for when the new components arrive... Its my achilles heel...

Forget about my original question. Non sli and best fit, what would you choose?
I will be playing farcry4 hopefully on ultra settings, bf4, metro and so on.

I am thinking maybe a gtx 970 or R9 290X, will one of those be overkill?

Power will not be an issue, am upgrading that as well.

Need to consider the additional power requirements as well!

For a single card sometimes a GTX 780 Ti can be found in the second hand market for a reasonable price. Otherwise a GTX 970 would be a decent upgrade path depending how good the regional pricing is in Denmark.

    Isn't a 960 about as fast as a 770?

    No, it's marginally slower than a 680.

Actually it's about the same performance as a 760. There wasn't much of a performance increase. If you don't mind buying second hand GTX 780s or R9 290s are pretty excellently priced.

A 970 or a 290X would be a great upgrade! Definitely not overkill. Overall your system would be nicely balanced.

What resolution are you playing at? I tend to have a bad habit of over upgrading cause I only play 1080P
