For those who have pre-ordered torchlight 2 but missed the news, Runic Games have given a launch date of the 20th Sept (9 days)! Both Metacritic and Steam are showing the same time, so it must be true! Been waiting for game for ages

Anyone else looking forward to this?

I am but it's being released at a bad time for me as Borderlands 2 is out on the 21st and that'll get priority when it comes to deciding what to play.

I'll be playing for certain. I had a real soft spot for the first game, repetitive though it may have been :)

I have had it on preorder for what seems a lifetime - my initial enthusiasm has been dulled by time. Borderlands 2 is out at the same time - also on pre-order - I can see myself playing that more. Carrier Command is out a week later which also will take a lot of my time!

Maybe if it turns out to be really, really good...

yes, true - a lot of games are coming out next week or the week after.

Though I haven't pre-ordered Borderlands 2 <*ducks to dodge blick flying at head*> I have pre-ordered WoW:MoP which launches on the 25th. Same deal though, not a difficult choice to make.

W000000000! Torchlight 2. Bring it on! Time to show Diablo III how things are done in a proper RPG.

I got this pre-ordered. Will it be better than Diablo 3?

Torchlight was better than Diablo III if you ask me, and from what I've seen of this, I genuinely haven't been this excited for an RPG in a long time. I've had it preordered for ages. Any people need a co-op partner, add me on steam (sig).

for awhile yes, but now that i've found path of exile, no.

    tl2:
    • toon gfx
    • linear gameplay
    • $20
    • seems like tl1 with multiplayer and more classes + items
    • delayed a million times

    poe:
    • gritty artwork
    • infinite replayability
    • f2p upon release (ethical microtransactions; no pay2win)
    • diablo 1 & 2 on crack
    • developers wrote a goddam manifesto to make their intentions & goals apparent to the community
    • literally a billion ways to play
    • strong interaction between devs and community
    • notch funded

    tough choice.

I tried the demo, and it looked exactly the same as diablo 3, the ui and everything. I got a bit bored of Diablo so I dont think I will spend £15 on a very similiar game.

Believe I will be getting it too. One question, and this may be stupid but I've only recently found out about the game so bear with me. Is it only on steam? I prefer to have a disk and case and such but if it's only digital I guess that's how I'll lease it.

Ahhh then, if so I guess I'll be leasing it from them. Would be nice to have the box and whistles though.

Leasing is a slightly unusual way of looking at Steam. By that logic I've been leasing HL2 since release, but I've never had to pay any extra for it. Plus since the law was changed recently you are technically allowed to resell digital games - although Steam have not yet reacted to this legislation.

I believe Valve actually use the term "subscriber" with regards to Steam customers, it's fundamentally similar to leasing. It's all very carefully worded to make sure customers aren't actually purchasing any goods. You could probably get way with calling Steam game "ownership" a single payment indefinite duration lease. Likewise, the recent legislation allows the transfer of subscriptions rather than the actual ownership of goods.

Yes but at any point Steam could go permanently and for a lot of people who don't back up games, this would leave no way to replace them.
