Quick one, chaps - have done the research and the Dell U2410 still seems to be highly regarded, but am aware that it's knocking on a bit now. Anyone know if it's been usurped by a more recent monitor of similar or better quality? Cheers!
Quality? I don't think so. However, IPS monitors got significantly lower input lag these days thanks to faster internals. And now you have IPS monitors without color processor and fancy things, mix with a really fast controller, allowing a near 0ms input lag, which is more attractive for gaming. You can also get higher resolutions like the Dell UP2414Q, a 24inch 4K 60Hz IPS monitor. The U2410 is quite old monitor now. It's still nice, as monitor technology does move slowly.
Cheers guys. I should probably add that at the moment I'm looking at second hand or a budget of about £160, 24" or 27" and NOT 1080p ie. 1920x1200 minimum. I did check out that Dell UP2414Q (cheers goodbytes) but it was a bit too expensive and some of the reviews weren't great. I think I'll wait a bit for 4K to bed down before jumping on that one. Uses will be photo editing at a reasonably high level and gaming, hence my attraction to the U2410.
I had a choice between the U2410 and the HP ZR24W as they were pretty much similar and went for the HP in the end and been very happy with it ever since. Depends on how much you want to pay 2nd hand for a decent monitor Not sure if that's a good price or not but mine was £360 when new
I've got a 27" Acer from Acer direct VA panel for around £160. Looks fine and dandy to my dodgy mince pies! £149.99 delivered on there now. http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_PB...P_HDMI_EURO-U_UM.HK3EE.005/version.asp?PID=57
Given your budget, I doubt you'll do much better than a U2410. My inclination would be the U2713HM (or is it U2714HM now?) or the UP2414Q but they're much more expensive - and the main benefit on those is a higher resolution. If you're happy with 1920*1200, then you'll probably be very happy with it. Most of the options in the market right now, certainly at this price range, are 1080p.
I still use my 2410 daily. It's orientated in portrait and used with my Dell U2713HM and and Apple retina in my laptop. It's a nice screen and much better in portrait than a 1080p screen would be. This pic makes it look pink, but it's not in reality. This colour cast is just how my phone reacted to the backlight. Still has great colours, and warms up quick. But not being LED backlit it's a warm monitor (Warm, not hot). I had to swap it out due to a blue line glitch (google it) but you can have issues like that with any monitor so wouldn't put it down to an inherent problem.
Cheers fellas - some food for thought there. Anyone know how the new U2413 stacks up against the U2410? I understand some of the tech has changed, like the backlight moving to LED.
Have look for a HP ZR24W as well. Not wide gamut but otherwise comparable to the 2410 and probably cheaper due to less brand appeal. I got one for a £100 and couldn't be happier.
