I am interested in an 1156 socket mobo and am currently looking at the gigabyte line. I see that the UD2 and UD4 seem to be much the same but the UD4 is almost $50 more. I have been looking for a test comparing the 2 but have not found one. I have seen tests of both and they all seem to agree that the two are excellent boards. What I want to know is why pick the UD4 over the UD2. Any thoughts on that one?

I've been very happy with the UD2. I have a i5 750 with a fenrir (mounted with fan over the RAM, blowing out the back of case). It can be a bit of a struggle to use the first RAM slot, also the graphics card can be awkward to remove since the fenrir is so close to it. I have a GTX 260. Still recommend the board though.

Doesn't UD4 have USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps and is ATX format (not mini-ATX like the UD2)?!

only if it has the 'a' prefix ie p55a-ud4 as opposed to p55-ud4

ud4p is not available in europe as far as i know

of course ud4 is a full size board compared with the ud2, although you can get the p55m-ud4 (mini) version for around 120 quid.

differences with ud4 boards are extra bios capabilities regarding security, better bandwidth on pci-e lanes and gigabytes current register purchase offer giving you 4 yr warranty (edit as i recall, this maybe only with their p55a versions)

EDIT - actually extended warranty is for all ud4 boards
