i need a new GPU but im not convinced either way? im leaning towards 7950 as i really like game mods, hd texture packs etc.. what are the community opinions ?
if you have room in your case for a bigger card and are not concerned with a bit extra heat and power draw then go with the 7950, it's a bit quicker at stock and overclocks like nuts
You should also get free games with the 7950, which may offset some of the slightly higher cost. Although it's best checking first, because they can run out of vouchers.
Yeah, at ref clocks the 7950 and 670 are very similar, just the 7950 has loads of OC headroom. The 670 would be a pointless buy at the moment because of its cost.
I'd almost* be tempted to buy the Mac edition just for this sexier-than-sex cooler: I mean...damn. Yeah, if you can even find one. They're amazingly scarce, I don't know what happened. You can pretty much discount them from any prospective lineup now, unless you resort to ebay. *it's "almost" because you pay like £100 extra for Mac-designated versions of GPUs, because "Mac" is a synonym for "shut up and take my money".
I'll freely quote it because that is one epicly good looking cooler. That said, you easily paint shrouds if that's your kind of thing.
http://www.ebuyer.com/520066-palit-gtx-760-2gb-jestream-graphics-card-ne5x760h1042-1042j £205. Still a bloody great cooler and a great card, mind.
You want to be very, VERY careful with that. There is a way to bork a 7950 or 7970 so that it is forced to run @ 8x PCIE. On the back of the card sits a resistor. If removed the card will run at 8x. There are certain Dell OEM cards being sold on Ebay that are borked in this way. I'm no expert on Macs but they're usually cut down PC parts so yeah, I would tread very carefully before buying anything for a Mac. http://forums.hardwaresecrets.com/need-help-repair/9399 Take a read of that....
Whilst it doesn't seem to hinder multiple GPU systems given the sheer might you are throwing at it it most certainly does affect a single card. Why on earth would you be stupid enough to spend £100 more for a card that's borked just for a white cooler? Surely it would make sense to buy a second hand one and either paint the cooler yourself or get it done professionally? I mean chit, you could get one custom airbrushed for £100 ffs. Plus 79xx stock coolers are pants any way. As soon as you clock to around a ghz they get hot and make the most god awful racket. It's high time that blower coolers took a running jump IMO. HATEFUL THINGS.
